I'm thinking about applying to both MD and DO schools. Should I add more MD schools based on the MSAR?

How serious are you for the MD degree? Your numbers are well below avg all the way around for MD schools. You're barely in strking distance for UNC and unless you've got some killer ECs, it's not worth the effort. Consider Wake-Forest, and all the new MD schools, except Hofstra.

Consider adding CampbellCOM, PCOM-GA and both VCOMs, since they're in your neck of the woods. You're fine for any DO school, including mine.

In all honesty I just want to be a physician (either MD or DO). But, I have great anxiety about the debt I will be in and my ability to repay it, especially if I go into a primary care field, and the only in-state schools in NC are allopathic. Additionally, my boss (a MD) and my father ( also a MD) are concerned that I will not get a good residency position in the geographic area that I want.

Consider VCOM as well if you'd like to be in the southeast.

You're in the running for any DO school. I got in to a few allopathic schools with similar stats, so if that's a concern of yours, definitely give MD a shot. I don't know that much about residency, but I wouldn't be too worried since bias is a bit exaggerated on this forum. That said, I live in a very osteopathic-friendly area, so choosing DO over MD didn't bother me..it was more about choosing the particular school. Where are you looking to practice?

Try Rowan SOM for DO (we have a lot of residencies and take a lot of our grads), and are public. Also Cooper is a new MD school for NJ. DO bias is over exaggerated here.

Can I still apply to VCOM without a DO LOR? I actually shadowed a Family Medicine DO for a week last summer and she agreed to write me an LOR. But when I attempted to contact her over a month ago about my decision to apply to medical school this year, I have yet to hear a response.
