Hey, I'm new to SDN. I got accepted to LECOM-Erie but was a little puzzled about something in the matriculation agreement. It said a student's acceptance can be withdrawn or they can be expelled from the school if already a current student if anything submitted turns out to be false or "unable to be verified to the satisfaction of LECOM".

I find this disturbing, as why wouldn't they make sure they did this PRIOR to offering someone an acceptance, much less them taking a seat in the class? Seems like if I was waitlisted because someone else was given an acceptance over me, but turned out to lie on something and then have the acceptance withdrawn in like a year, I would be really mad!

I'm just posting this out of curiosity but I was very surprised to see it, unless it is just something they put in as a disclaimer or something.

Thanks everyone!!!

i'm guessing that this is just to keep the door open so if something comes up, then they can rescind acceptance. otherwise, admission would be too much like the OJ simpson case. I doubt though that they are still in the process of actively reviewing anything.

not that I know anything.

If you haven't done anything wrong, ie lie on your applications. Then i'm sure everything will work out. As said, just like contracts, there are always lines where they live themselves rooms to back out. Almost never do they do it, but at least they know they are in control.

I went to LECOM-Erie. It's all about control with that school. They really preach honor and integrity. The point it, if you lie about anything, they will find out and you will be strung up. Don't lie and you will be fine.

Thanks for the responses. I am not concerned about it, but the question came up when I was talking to a family member about my acceptance and she was reading my acceptance letter and she actually posed the question to me!!

She was like "Why would they be concerned AFTER offering an acceptance? isnt that counterproductive for an admissions office"? I thought about it and agreed, so i figured to post the question here.

Thanks again.

While a good point, I wouldnt worry about it. Given the limited number of interview spots and acceptances that will be offered, I dont think a school would waste it on someone that they had suspicions about.

As far as "verifying to our satisfaction" any problems can be cleared up. I know my D.O. is expecting to do quite a bit of traveling around the U.S., and internationally, between now and next year for various reasons. Also, during that time he will transitioning from the Army. He is a difficult guy to get a hold of as it is, so if the school tries to contact him for some reason, and cant for a couple weeks, is that going to be a problem?

Anyway, I think schools are pretty thorough. They wouldnt accept anyone if there were any doubts in their mind.
