I was looking over my transcript and saw that two intro classes I took the summer before entering my university, counted as Biology.

Will they count as Biology when I apply? Also, do you self-assign what classes count as Science? If a class is listed as Psychology but is heavily science-based, could I assign it as a Science course?

Your butterfly reading the book avatar still surprises me

1) Any post-high school (i.e. college credits) you have taken will count. So, they will count as biology

2) Yeah you do in AMCAS, which verifies them using your transcripts.

3) Yes. >50% content in a psych class = BCPM (science) course.

An easy way to tell if a course is BCPM is the prefix. If that psych class does not have a "Bio/Biol" attached to the course number, it's unlikely that it would count as a science course.

Yeah, that's what I figured. But some of the Neuro classes are categorized as Psych. Not that it is that important to me, but uptrend GPA is my friend.

It does. I listed that as math as well. It's also why I listed psych Research Methods I & II, and Experimental Methods as science - 99% stats/math. R is officially my bitch for life.

I've heard of more people having issues with this with AACOMAS (personal experience as well). Just apply early and if any classes are changed that you feel shouldn't be appeal to AMCAS/AACOMAS right away. Just make sure to hold onto syllabi and/or have your prof write a letter detailing te course material.

Also, that thread is ancient. There are more recent threads on here that are consistent with people not having an issue with listing those classes as BCPM.

Wow. Game changer. I'm doing a BS in psych, 80% of my courses have been in the biological basis of behavior theme. All on your list I've taken, as well as some more cognitive/neuroscience.

My experience, the exact same courses have sometimes been double listed as PSYC or BIOL prefixes when it comes to neuroscience and I've had trouble getting credit in neuro major for psych courses due to the repetition.

If my sGPA takes a hit before app cycle I'll def take a closer at those courses.

I know the pain it took me 2.5 extra years to graduate beings I added a psych major and Neuro minor and classes couldn't overlap.

Lol precisely my prob. Dual degree neuro and psych, they allow two courses total for overlap.

I love psych but besides the obedience/authority research I hate social psych lol. I've only taken the bare minimum required in the other themes and tons in the bio themes

That seems like the business school here, the psych surveys here are pretty interesting and I'm always willing to participate. But yeah, I prefer to do wet lab research.

I prefer wet and bioinformatics research. The psych dept. at my schools likes to hide the real research projects.

Yeah I've never done either or anything near that lol. I generally seek the experiment designs but I do know BAs do a lot of those especially those thinking of social work in the future.

Believe it or not, there's a hell of a lot more to psych than surveys.

The grad program I almost went to was using these techniques/models to further explore the phenomena I was studying in my undergrad social psych lab. It's crazy stuff that too easily gets brushed under the rug.
