how long are you leaving the spidural catheter in and what are you running thru it as far as infusion is concerned???

Our patients usually go home by POD 3 so the cath is out on POD 1. On the patients that pain remains an issue and the patient is staying longer, we leave the cath in longer as well. Straight narcotic infusion with basal rate and PCEA.

do you like morphine (too many side effects??) or dilaudid ??

Preservative free Dilaudid, 50 mcg/cc, 1-2 cc per level basal infusion, 2 cc/15 min PCEA.

we dont have PCEA so shall i go with 10cc/hr PF dilaudid?
