I have a question for those who are taking Kaplan or any prep course.

Who saw an improvement in scores when compared to their average MCAT score. I am averaging a 33 with a peak at 36 and low at 32. I want a 37 or higher MCAT score but that seems unlikely. Someone give me a boost of confidance!

Thanks

*exactly* the same as my practice scores
definitely less than a 37

remember...adcoms look at WAY more than your MCAT score
usually, the cut off is a 29-30
an excellent candidate with a 30 can get into the top schools

I think the jump is definitely possible, I went up 2 points from my Kaplan high and about 4 from the average on the actual. It depends on the person I guess. My scores were around yours. Good luck!

I went up 2 points from my highest score (AAMC #7) and about 4 to 5 points from my average Kaplan score.

As a Kaplan teacher, I can tell you that this seems to be a pretty common occurrence.

I didn't take Kaplan, but I did take a few of their practice tests... I think I got a 30, a 31, and a 28 or something along those lines. Needless to say, when I opened up the MCAT score report page and saw my 34, I burst into very happy tears.

My final 3 practice tests were very consistent, but I went down 6 points on the actual test. 🙁

I got a 30 on the original half-length diag. By the end I was averaging 36s. On the actual test I got a 40. I attribute the final jump to two things: 1) Taking exams/etc. under pressure has always been a big strength of mine, and 2) I was hungover or got little sleep before most of the full length practice tests, which probably brought my scores down on those.

Anyway, best of luck. 👍

10 point increase from diagnostic (YAY) with a 1 point increase from my highest score (the last practice test).
My average doesnt mean jack since I didnt really buckle down and start studying until 5 weeks before the MCATs. Oh those were 5 fun weeks I tell you

I went up a couple points each time I took a practice test and then up one point from my highest on the real thing....

Whoa. We better not ever meet or we'll probably end up having all sorts of hot MCAT love. 😉 That's pretty nuts tho...did you even have the hangover/no-sleep part too?

That is amazing. Do you mind sharing your original score just so we have a reference point? In any case 11 points is truly inspiring. Congrats and best of luck to you!

I did all right on all the practice tests though I saw continuous improvements, but on the half length one that Kaplan uses as a recruiting tool I got a 17- hence, I did not take the April MCAT 🙄

on practice tests, I was getting 6's. And on the real thing, I got a 16!!! I was like, I'm on fire!!!! Up 10 points!!! Look out world, there's a new doctor in town!

Compared to a 6 yes it is amazing. And that is why I asked for the actual score to see what sort of 10 point increase is possible (10-20 is different from 30-40). In any case, no reason for you to belittle someone else's achievement. I hope you're having a happy day tomorrow happydays because apparently you're not having one today.

How am I putting anyone down??? Why can't people understand jokes and sarcasm? *shakes head* I'm always happy.

Umm, no I got your sarcasm. I didn't get your joke. Something has to be funny for me to consider it a joke. Bitter people make bitter sarcastic remarks that rain on others' parades. Funny people make witty sarcastic jokes that do not single anyone one out.

Post your score and score improvements and maybe we'll see if you subscribe to the former or the latter. And if you don't, well... I'll come to my own conclusions.

And I haven't taken the MCAT yet so you can't throw that one at me. Sorry.

Gloomy-gus's always interpret everything negatively. I can't help you. You think whatever you want.

And unfortunately for you Rational-Mojo's always interpret everything accurately.

I don't recall asking for your help. I suggest you help yourself first. You're gonna have to do better than a rainbow in your avatar for me to buy the "I'M THE HAPPIEST BUBBLIEST PERSON EVEN THOUGH I MAKE BITTERLY SARCASTIC COMMENTS" bit.

Will do. Didn't need you to tell me that.

What I meant was that I'm not going to try to make you think positively or negatively. You can think about my comments however you want. I'm just telling you my state of mind, and it's positive and light-hearted. If you still want to think that i'm making fun of people, then go ahead.

Actions (the replies you post) speak volumes louder than words (proclamations of being a "positive light-hearted person"). Your actions seem to be diametrically opposed to your words. Listen, I really don't care and I'm sure you don't care what I think of you - I'm just letting you know how it came across and it wasn't exactly friendly and I wasn't even the one at whom your comment was directed. That's all. So it doesn't matter what I think but maybe you should consider what others (whose opinion you value) may think and the way you project yourself by making such insidious remarks.

Have a happy one,
Moj

I wasn't directing my comment to anyone. It's just a string of words. What action speak louder than words???? You don't see any action; you only see words here. You say something and I say something. If you can interpret that as being somehow sinister, then you're not any different.

Again, people are free to think for themselves. If you want to be offended, you can be. And others can get a good laugh out of it.

Just tryin to change the subject. There is so much tension here that I can cut it with a knife.

Regarding score improvements after the diagnostic, here's my 2 cents: anything is possible. I got a 21 on my first Kaplan diagnostic test, and on the fourth Kaplan FL, I ended up with a 37.

The process was similar to most people's. Regular work, attending classes and, above all, the on-line workshops and quizzes.

Hopefully, the real one will be somewhat easier as people seem to be saying.

Cheers,

AI

Got a 17 on the Kaplan Diagnostic; three months later scored a 35 on PT9 (11PS, 12VR, 12BS). My advice is to not take the last two Kaplan FL's and instead do all of the AAMC's on your own.

Or you can take all the Kaplan full-lengths, as well as doing the AAMCs on your own.

those are some badass scores.. if i jump 2 or 3 points from where im at now (27/28ish).. i will be THRILLED!

before the test last august, i was scoring 27-32 on my practice exams (avg 28.75, and for the sake of easy math, we'll round that up to 29); however, i only took kaplan FL 1-4. i came out with a 25 on the real test (down 4 points from avg). i attribute that to not having enough experience with the AAMC format of test (VR totally threw me off with the 10 q verbal passages).
