It would make me hesitate to apply there. I would only apply there as a backup because I prefer to avoid locations that repeatedly have ranked among the worst places to live for various reasons (air quality, crime, poverty, etc). It really is sad, because Wayne State is a pretty good school from what I have heard.

Wow.....you managed to make a post without a spelling error (I'll let slide the fact that you apparently deny the existence of a comma button on the keyboard). Granted, you probably had to do a Google search to find countries that were allied with Germany during World War II, because I quite frankly don't think you've got the requisite knowledge to name three fascist states, since you seem to have problems with the academic equivalent of remembering to put your pants on before your shoes.

Hey, don't be so nice to him

wow... this must have an interesting back story...

tuition is really high for out of state also... 45k I believe. And they haven't traditionally accepted too many out of staters. Only since last year have they bumped up the number to 20% which is about 60 people

Does this mean that you would avoid Baltimore, Chicago, St. Louis etc?

Don't bait DKM here. Next he'll come in and share his hatred of NYC, New Orleans, and yeah, probably those other cities. DKM -- we all know already. Your need to invade every thread with your feelings about these cities has gotten a little old.

I don't hate Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, or NYC. I just would not live in those places if I had another choice and have to wonder out loud why everyone seems to cum in their pants every time NYC or Boston is mentioned. I actually like Chicago and would live there (at least in the suburbs) if given the chance. That is all.

there've been recent concerns over their accreditation.

Chicago, a bad place to live? WTF are you smoking? Maybe if you live in Cabrinni or the Robert Thomas Homes or something, but come on . . . Chigago is not even close to being compared to Baltimore or Detroit. Even Hyde Park where Pritzker is located is nothing to worry about in comparison.

Drop Kick,

Sweet jebus! Have you been drinking bathtub gin in that Mombassa bar??

(Dude the trick is to go incognito so the mods won't notice.)

:luck:

Maybe it's because there are things to do there that you just can't get in the suburbs. But hey, if you're cool with eating at Chiles or the Outback everytime you want to go out, fine, the suburbs are great. Plus, I've heard that going to the ciniplex is a blast and let's not forget the big mall.

and don't forget suburban sprawl.

Last time I checked (which would be last month when I was in Chicago to visit a couple of the museums), you didn't have to live in the city to have access to those "things to do there" that you mention. In fact living outside of a city allows you more money to go take advantage of all the positives while avoiding all the negatives (traffic, crime, exorbinant rent, etc).

I see your point, but at the same time, you have to remember that you're not talking to some 20 y/o typical premed who wants to party in his spare time and has trouble reasoning through anything with real world applicability, like....say a budget?

BTW, I can't tell you the last time I went to a mall or a ciniplex. And I've never eaten at a Chili's.

My future in-laws love Chili's. We go there every single time we go out with them.

It's just annoying to live in a place where your Friday night options are something like dinner at Fridays and going to see Big Momma's House 4. What if I want to see a Peter Greenway or Mathew Barney film? What if I want to see Mersbow in concert? I don't want to have to settle or drive to the city everytime I want to see something. Crime is not an issue where I live. I take the train everywhere so I don't deal with traffic. Yes, you are absolutely correct concerning rent. For what I pay, I could rent a house in most towns. But I am not married, don't live with my SO, don't have kids, and am not a 20 yo pre-med. I have a budget, and with loans and a job, I make it work. Yes money is tight but I would not have it anyother way. It is very frusterating to hear phrases like "panties wet when someone says NYC or boston" or whatever you said. Its not that I live here because it wets my panties, its because other places dry them up. But you are right, suburbs and towns are super cheap - being single, you can live it up as a waiter.

  Anyone ever been to a Benigan's? That's the place I eat with my SO's parents.

Because nobody wants to live in the midwest

OOS tuition is quite high, though they told us at the financial aid seminar that they consider you a resident after one year, unlike UMich.... and yeah, I didn't believe it at first when I heard it either.

oh wow... I didn't know about that. They should talk that up a little bit more

as much as I hate NYC, too... LA is much much worse. Sucks out your soul. Amazing how a city can do that to you

Then don't go to Johns Hopkins (its in the hood)

Yeah, but not all people who opt to live in urban areas are kids. My sister is 36 and bought a condo in Chicago itself, not the suburbs, because it was closer to the stuff she wanted to be close, and no, we're not talking about bars and clubs. 🙂 My husband and I lived in an urban environment for 4 years, and we loved it just because we could walk everywhere and were surrounded by great restaurants.

3385 applied last year... for 288 spots.

I don't think I'd consider that "few"

it probably has to do with the fact that OOS tution is so darn expensive. and what I heard its impossible to declare residency. you will have to pay tuition that high for all 4 years...thats just nuts.

Some folks can't cope with the D.

that's why they try to sense if the oakland county kids could actually handle it during the interviews

Like, oh my God, those homeless people totally freak me out. It's like, I can't lock my doors hard enough when I'm driving south of Eight Mile. They should like totally move Greektown to Birmingham.

I just have to add this. I was there last year and they have by far the worst and UGLIEST library I have ever seen in my life (no offense and just speaking the truth). And if the library is ugly, you know what that means to a premed.😀

come to think of it, they never did show us the library on the tour...

You're right - but I did check it out on my own afterwards. It ain't the most advanced library, but oh well. I heard albany's library is a lot worse anyway...

yeah... I don't remember seeing it. I think that new addition to scott hall is supposed to update a lot of the facilities, but that won't be done for another two years. It seems like everyone studies in the small group rooms on the second floor in scott hall anyways

Oh yeah. Bennigan's is like the Chili's that failed. 🙂

out of all of those chains I always thought Bennigan's was the most distinctive. I can't tell you the difference between a Chili's, TGIF, or applebee's

when does construction actually start on that?

Yeah true - that place was pretty damn scary!

Also, did anyone NOT like the anatomy lab? I thought it looked run-down and barely equipped with lights.
