Has anyone else not been asked about SDN at interviews? A couple of Deans (Cinci/BU) alluded to it, but no applicants actually asked "So, about that student doctor network place...?"

I have heard Georgetown brings it up.

Was never mentioned in any of my interviews. Why would it be?

Never brought up

I mean during idle conversation between applicants. Not necessarily during the actual interview.

It came up a lot between the applicants at one of my interviews. Mostly everyone was saying how helpful SDN was, but how crazy it made us.

I see. Yeah, it was never brought up at any of mine. Most of the small talk at mine was about where people were from, current events, or sports. 😀

Yea same here.

It was brought up at a couple interview days between applicants, but only once from the director of admissions, who said they actively monitor their school-specific thread and the more "open" people who post on there.

It was alluded to or directly mentioned, always casually, by an admissions person at almost every one of my interviews. At one intervew we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement that specifically mentioned sdn. Interestingly, it was always the admissions people and not the interviewees that made mention of sdn.

Everyone I have ever talked to says either: "I lurked on the site."
Or...
"I used to be on the site."

Hmm... As for me, I honestly lurked before I had my admittance. Today, I'm sure most people who know me personally can probably figure out who I am from my SDN handle. Then again, I wouldn't write anything I wouldn't want my mother to see.

Ive been called out at two interviews by other applicants when we were just hanging around waiting for the actual interviews. Honestly was a little awkward considering there isn't much to say once someone blurts out "Oh you must be markyb!" Didn't really care much though.

Yeah, Dean Witzburg at BU definitely mentioned it

Yup. At Michigan I was replying to another applicants question with something like "Oh I was fortunate to get a few other interviews" when a third applicant said out of nowhere "Oh I know exactly where you got interviews because I know who you are on SDN." :smack: Other than that offhand comment he was a pretty cool guy so nbd.

I met a couple people from SDN at interviews but we never mentioned SDN. We just knew 😉 (also at Michigan oddly enough).

At UCSF another applicant came up to me and asked me if I was Tots on SDN. I never realized it was so obvious who I was...I hardly even said anything at UCSF.

Happened a few more times too.

This one guy at one of my interviews was asking me all these questions about my background. The more I answered the bigger the grin got on his face. When he asked me what year I graduated in I lied and said 2009. His grin disappeared and he stopped talking to me. Pretty sure he had figured out who I was on sdn.

Probably so. Good thing half of my mdapps and public info on sdn is completely fake.

It's been brought up a few times by applicants in the downtime, and usually in the context of how insane SDN is. If it is, I just don't say much, or if pressed, I just give noncommittal, "Wow, that sounds intense."

And committee members with downtime and an applicant database at their fingertips are exactly why I stay out of the SSD threads.

Yeah I really wonder what gives certain people away...

With all of the applicants you'll meet, it's crazy to think that you can single someone out from SDN.

Now imagine what would happen if you met LizzyM in real life!!! 😱

Towards the end of one of my interview days right before we filled out a survey regarding our interview experience:

Director of Admissions: "I would really like you to all tell us if there's anything we did wrong. I don't want to be reading about it on that student doctor website..."

Room of applicants: nervous laughter

One brave applicant: "what a horrible website!"

Dir of Ad: "well its actually a very informative website with good resources for applicants"

*she walks out of room*

Female interviewee: "they're all so mean on that site" (in a whiny voice)

I met people from SDN at three interviews. Only one was the awkward "OH, YOU'RE ON SDN" in front of the whole room.

That's what I get for having a weird alma mater and listing it on my mdapps. Go Geoducks!

I met up with some SDN peeps that had interviews the same day as me.
On another occasion I figured out/ was found out who a fellow interviewee was on SDN post interview.

At one interview an applicant mentioned to the admissions counselor that she was famous on SDN.

During my MCAT while in the waiting room someone mentioned the MCAT thread for our test date (which I was really active in). I pretended I had no idea what SDN was.

Sent from my Galaxy S2 i think, but I don't really know. Im just a lowly premed.

Haha I'm always the one asking everyone if they go on this site.

For dental schools, Nova, LECOM, USC, Oklahoma, and probably Minnesota had mentioned about SDN.

applicants at all 12 schools I've been to talked about SDN.

the assistant dean at Minnesota mentioned about SDN

LECOM mentioned how SDN scares the $hit out of peeps.

my interviewer at NOVA even knew the questions posted on the interview feedback and asked me: what questions do you WANT me to ask YOU since you seen all the questions on SDN?

The first rule of SDN is that you don't talk about SDN irl.

The second rule of SDN is that you don't talk about SDN irl.

At one of my interviews, I remember an applicant in my tour group said: "So, on Student Doctor Network it says that [fact about school's admissions]. Is that true?"

After that, everyone averted their eyes and basically avoided him like the plague.

Came up in my interview, too. I stfu. Lol.

And I know faculty at my school actively participates on sdn. 😉

Good thing I post nothing which others could use to identify me.

:ninja:

I figured out a med student that posts on SDN. He seemed RLY weirded out lol
