Hi all,

I was wondering if it would be a problem for mid/upper tier MD schools if the bulk of my shadowing was with a DO primary care physician or if I shouldn't list that at all on AMCAS and get more MD hours.

Thank you!

Shadowing is so you can get a good idea of what the job of being a dr is like. A DO and an MD in similar practices do fundamentally the same thing.

Thank you for the responses! I understand they do the same thing but was unsure if there was undue bias like there can be in residency matching!

The vast majority of clinical Physicians do not distinguish between MD, DO, or IMG. They think of other doctors in terms of specialities. So PCP is just that.

None. Shadow away.

I currently have 60 hours of FM and 2 hours of ID, do you think I need to expand on this to be competitive for even the higher ranked schools?
