Ok so I have like 60ish shadowing hours but they were mostly different doctors and specialties except for one gynecologist I shadowed for 24 hours. Do these all need to be different activities or can I use the multiple occasion thing (But even so different points of contact??) I have a bunch of other things I would like to use for my 15.

Follow up question: If these do need their own tabs, should they take precedence over a year plus volunteering at the cat shelter? or being a TA?

Or should I group different research experiences?

Sorry, I'm a mess :/

For shadowing, I put clinical and surgical as two separate shadowing experiences. Based on your different specialties, pick out some important qualities or similarities you found and you can group them that way. You should max have 3 shadowing tabs, but obviously, don't have 6 different tabs for each shadowing experience.

I think shadowing is one of the most important W/A experiences on your app, they definitely should get their own tab and I consider shadowing to take precedence over volunteering at a cat shelter or being a TA.

okay so if I shadowed three different oncologists, should I have a section for oncology? And maybe group peds and internal med and gynecology into primary care?

I wouldn't necessarily do specialty to specialty, but think of reflections of those shadowing experiences and see which one's you can group together. '

For example, I shadowed this one surgeon and through the OR, I learned about leadership. And through this other doctor, I learned about leadership when she did blah blah. If you learned one common theme through two specialties, then you could possibly group them together. The W/A section is more about reflection, than resume listing.

Put all specialities into ONE shadowing entry. There is no need for more. List out the name, speciality, location, and contact (phone/email) for each. To give you an idea,

(24 hours) Dr. John Dorian, Internal Medicine, St. Vincent's Hospital, 555-555-5555, [email protected]
(16 hours) Dr. Christopher Turk, General Surgery, St. Vincent's Hospital 666-666-6666, [email protected]
(40 hours) Dr. Gregory House, Diagnostic Medicine, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, 777-777-7777, [email protected]

There was a recent post here that showed an example of this, but after a cursory search I could not find it. If someone has that handy, it might be helpful for OP to see. After listing out the separate docs you shadowed, you can go more into specifics.

What if it's been a while since you last shadowed the doctor and they ay have forgotten you? Like Idk if the doctor who I shadowed a year and a half ago for like 12 hours will remember my name :/. Should I hit them up again?

I agree that clumping the shadowing I to one space is a good idea.

You can do the same with research experiences, posters, hobbies, etc.

If you have more recent shadowing you can list that Contact in the header, and add the long-ago shadowing to the description as an aside.

If you haven't shadowed anyone in 1.5 years, hitting on them again is a great idea.

okay, I was actually going to put three different research experiences I had.. Two were just over the summer so maybe I could put that in one and my 2 year experience in another?
