What do people do usually when they shadow an OD? do you just stand around and see how he does an eye exam on a patient? wouldn't the patient mind getting another spectator in the examination room?

What do people do usually when they shadow an OD? do you just stand around and see how he does an eye exam on a patient? wouldn't the patient mind getting another spectator in the examination room?

You usually just sit in the exam room and observe a couple eye exams. Sometimes the OD will sort of include you in the exam by explaining what he/she is doing, other times you just sit there quietly while they do their thing. Just follow their lead.

Patients generally don't mind having someone observe -- the doctor always asks their permission first. No one ever refused during all the times I observed.
