OK I know this is the kind of stuff :I should of known years ago but what are the "rules" for shadowing a physician. I've worked with physicians at the hospital and school but I've never done the shadowing thing.

I asked a doc if I could and he was ok with it. I'm wondering if shadowing is usually a one time deal or do people do it monthly with the same physician.

Any input?

When i asked the doc i shadowed I did every Monday and wedsnday for 3 weeks

I shadowed a doc every day (M-F) for three and a half weeks. I also got college credit for it and thus did a little write-up at the end. I know others who have shadowed longer and for credits did some sort of research paper to help the practice he/she shadwowed.

I think it all depends on how much time the doctor has available or how much the doctors willing to let you shadow.

I shadowed an ER doc about everyother week for app. 4months. She would've let me in more, but our schedules conflicted. She wasn't like on a set regular schedule. It would be either the morning, afternoon, or the grave shift. I was only able to go if she landed on the grave shift on the weekends. Therefore, the frequency of that came out to be app. every 2 weeks.
