so ive been an EMT for several months now and ive logged in probably 500+ hrs of pt contact and exp. however i have not done any shadowing with physicians, the most i might have had is an hr watching teh ER attending perform stiches on my friend after he had a laceration above his eye catching an elbow in the face. i was wondering hwo this is going to look on my application considering i dont have shadowing from physicians. i will be taking a year off, so I can get time to shadow soon, and i plan to work as an ER tech for 4 months. how am i lookin in terms of clinical exp?

The EMT hours and ER tech experience look good in terms of clinical exp (I could use them on my application). However, you really should have some actual shadowing hours with a variety of physicians in addition to those hours you have as an EMT/ER tech...It looks better on your application, and you'll be a little more knowledgable in interviews.

Agree with this. Definitely schedule time for some shadowing, but you look fine in terms of clinical experience.

well what if i dont have much time to do shadowing before i send in my apps? I am taking my mcat on the 16th and i also have a summer II class, im sending in my app asap. Is it ok if i do shadowing during sept and have it prepared for interviews/update my app after?

Yeah, that's what I would do...Your MCAT and summer courses should take priority over shadowing in my opinion. Just do whatever shadowing you can between now and interviews without compromising MCAT studying/course work. Assuming the rest of your application is decent, minimal shadowing hours is not going to keep you out of medical school if they want you.
