Shadowing

Im am about to start paramedic school and part of the class involves hospital rotations. I am required to complete rotations in ER, Gen. Surg, Anesthesiology, ICU etc., which is a total of 300+ hours. I was wondering if I can count these as shadowing hours? I wont necessarily be working one on one with the doc, however, there are alot of procedures the doctors are required to observe me performing; (i.e Intubating, EKG interpretation, cricothyrotomy's, etc)

Nope doesn't count as shadowing but does count as clinical experience. The point of shadowing is not so much about observing but about understanding a practice through observing.The one on one with a physician in his or her practice is very important and does help shape your understanding of medicine.

I would imagine you could do some great networking to find future shadowing opportunities while doing your paramedic rotations

Yea, thats what I was thinking! Im trying to look for a specialty that I would get the best experience and information from...I want to shadow more than just one specialty (ER,Gen.Surg,Family prac)? We'll see
