OP, if you haven't already reached this conclusion based on the responses that you've received, your chem prof was WRONG.

It's not like she asked about shaking hands in a one-on-one interview. She's asking about a panel. 🙄

Yes, shake their hand, but then quickly rub your hands on anything nearby (a table top, your pants) as if they had spit on their hands or something. Then, with an awkward and uncomfortable look on your face, say, "Uhh, where's the bathroom?".
 
Go commando, and at the end of the interview give one of them the ol' mushroom tattoo. Bonus points if you can hit more than one interviewer before anyone can react.

:laugh: haven't heard the phrase "mushroom tattoo" in some time. Just be careful if you tea bag that their coffee cups may contain a hot liquid.
