i've recently come down with a bad case of the shingles (chicken pox), and i have interviews scheduled in the near future. i am literally writhing in pain. my question is, can i call to reschedule and inform them of my condition?
Herpes zoster (shingles) is what you have now...both herpes zoster and chicken pox are different diseases from the same virus VZV (varicella zoster virus). Good luck and take it easy.

If you had chicken pox as a kid, as most of us did, then what actually happens is you just sort of beat the virus into submission, but it hides out in your long very long lived dendritic cells, and if you become immunocompromised, it reactivates into shingles. It can also just randomly reactivate I think.
Vaccination prevents Shingles, because you become immune to the virus without being exposed, so there is no virus hinding in your dendritic cells. Therefore, people who received the vaccine and never had chicken pox don't have to worry about shingles.
