I will go to rotation soon. I am just wondering if I should add my preceptors or the people I work with on rotation to my facebook. What do you think? Especially those are preceptors.

"Linked in" is for that...

No...Linkdin might be okay. Definitely no FB, that is just downright unprofessional. UNLESS they became buddybuddy with them, please don't.

Before your rotation? Never acceptable.

After your rotation? I can see an argument in favor of that. Especially if they add you first, go ahead and click accept if you want to do that.

No; major boundary violation there. If you were friendly with them and would like to keep in touch with them after the rotation is over, then you may do so but I'd advise waiting until you have graduated.

One of my preceptors is on my FBF list, but she was my preceptor 20 years ago. 😀

Wait, FBF is not, "former boyfriend?"

Nope, not until after you have completed the rotation or have graduated.

Although, I did join my preceptors Starcraft team like a couple days into the rotation.

No. Plain and simple. Your a pharmacist, not a cashier at Taco Bell. Being fired from a pharmacy is one thing. Fine. There are a thousand other different pharmacies to apply for. But having your hard - earned license revoked is another. Not fine. You wasted 6 years of your life all for a drunken Facebook text. Besides, you spend more time at work than spending time with your family, what is it that is so important that you cannot wait 16 hours later?

Read this and you will understand:

Ok, will not do that. Actually I rarely post on my facebook. I only use my facebook to keep me updated on friends and class group. I probably post once or twice a year..

I had a few preceptors that added me after my rotations. I would never add one of them before the rotation or if we didn't have a real friendly relationship. It really depends on the preceptor. I did add other students that I was working with but I feel that is a completely different thing than adding a preceptor.

you will either feel rejected because they "declined" your request

then you have to go in the next day and see them face to face and carry that shame over your heart until the rotation is over

worst would be if you "searched" for them stalker style and accidently clicked "add friend"

best to ride out the 4 or 6 weeks and see how "close" you become......then add

i'm sure your preceptor does not want to know what you ate for lunch while you were rotating at their site

Don't send them a request. If they send you a request, accept it. Don't post ANYTHING on Facebook unless you would be comfortable shouting out it loud in a professional public setting. If you have any doubt if what you are posting will fall into the OK zone for professional public setting, don't post it. If you really think you must post it anyway, make a private list for family/soul mates to post it to (do not put your preceptor in this list) or better yet, send it as an IM. Remember that anything you delete from Facebook after posting, will still be the property of Facebook and stored on their servers to all perpetuity (per your agreement when you joined Facebook).....this is true even if you double delete your Facebook account (be aware the first delete doesn't really delete it.)

If you are the cute girl on rotation at Sparda's hospital, yes, it's okay to add the pharmacists on facebook. Otherwise, nope.

Personally, I only add people that I know as friends to Facebook. I wouldn't add people just because they are my preceptor (that's just my personal decision). Prior to a rotation I wouldn't add one to Facebook, after a rotation and after my grade has been given if I developed a friendship with the preceptor I think that's fine.

Jesus H. This thread sums up everything I hate about kids today. Just...no. And get off my lawn.
