I've been reading up on UCSD's pharmacy school website and the profile of the applicants from previous semesters. The average GPA of the applicants interviewed last year was a 3.67. Did anyone here get into UCSD with a GPA lower than that? My GPA is not that high and I'm trying to decide whether I even have a chance or not if I were to apply.

An average of 3.67 means 50% of the students interviewed had a gpa lower than 3.67 and 50% of the students had a gpa higher than 3.67.

3.67 is NOT the cut off!

I would apply anyway! 😀

You're describing the median.
The content writers of that website were probably referring to the arithmetic mean, usually called the average.
The arithmetic mean is (the sum of all the gpas of students submitting applications) divided by (the total number of students submitting applications).

Here's a nice explanation of mean & median: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/revisewise/maths/data/12_fact.shtml

Thanks BTB.. it HAS been oh.. 6 yrs since my last statistics class.. 😀
But my point to the OP was.. yes you should apply because 3.67 is NOT a cut off GPA. Don't cut out your chances just because your GPA is lower than that.

From what I know 3.3 is the cutoff GPA, if you have at least that, then APPLY. I was below the average listed on their website and well.. I guess they liked me. =P

If my friend who was applying at the time hadn't told me to at least try... who knows where I would've ended up.

I know someone who was accepted for this Fall with a 3.50. You should definitely try to apply. 🙂

The school did not list what the average GPA of incoming students was. It just listed the average GPA of people they interviewed, but knowing that some people here got in with a lower GPA gives me hope. Thanks for the replies!
