So Iv'e submitted some 25 secondaries. Complete at all, except one or two and recently got an email for an interview. Do I need to periodically check to see if the other ones have updates online or can I just look out for an email. It's very time consuming to go in and check on each and every school and I don't really want to be neurotic about this. Is it safe to just wait for an email from a school and maybe check every 4 weeks. I also check my spam folder periodically.

Thoughts?

Check every 10 minutes, you never know when the email for an interview invite might pop up in your email.

its become a morning ritual of mine to check the statuses of each app, but only after goin thru my email and not getting any news....its impossible to stop 🙁

I check my email often lol. But is it really necessary to ever check my status online through the secondary app? Will a school ever update there but not send you an email?

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid....although I get really giddy when I see an email that says MD, Medschool, or anything like that.

yes.

pretty sure you will get an email for an interview, but not a "prelim review complete" status change

I would just check the school-specific threads. If people began getting interviews via status change, someone will definitely post and it would be your cue to check it then. Let others do the neurotic work for you 🙄

Actually a good idea. I applied to too many schools to check all but I might just do that 🙂

25 secondaries... :0

My primary was sent to 8 schools but I got sick of secondaries and stopped after about 5 schools. Plus I was tight on money so I had to make some budget cost. (Had an unexpected ER visit 7k$)

7k! Damn, that's a lot. Could have been a lot of secondaries. Well, I'm from CA, with lower stats so you can easily take out 7-8 schools that are really competitive and then I threw in some reaches and some good matches and things added up. I'm very happy that I did though because I have 2 interviews from schools that I thought I would have very little chance at.

lol this application cycle has made into a compulsive email checker.......

I have my email on my phone and every email I get I have a notification. I'm basically glued to my phone now:

please teach me how you DON'T check yoru status every 10 min... 🙁

Lol. I'm really lazy? Checking me email I can do. I'm seriously amazed at how excited I get every time I see a med school email.

Checking my status never got me anything except once or twice learning of a status change an hour or two before an email appeared. It'll be better for your sanity if you can keep away from the applications. But if you can't...well, you aren't alone.

I will say that this thread is pure schadenfreude for most/all incoming MS-1's right now.

If you can stop checking, don't check. As everyone else has said, you'll get an email.

If you can't stop checking, just go with it. Hating yourself for being neurotic just means two burdens to bear.

Finally, setting up a phone alert for new, relevant, email (easy to do, provided you used a dedicated AMCAS email address) can help you to step away from the computer and not simply replace it with incessant phone checking.

Will def not be checking my status. I'll just keep my eyes open for emails. Seems like a healthier option 🙂
