Or just volunteer at a hospital as my “work experience “ on my medical school application?

What do you want to do? What do you find more interesting? Only you know.

Are you looking for work experience or volunteer experience? Volunteering requires no ramp-up time, whereas the others do. What is your goal?

Then I would suggest finishing your prerequisite university classes (info available on the AAMC website) and volunteering in your spare time - something with direct patient contact is best.

My goal is to get into a good medical school and become a doctor.

What’s going to give you the best chance at realizing your goal is doing well academically. Your GPA and MCAT are the most important facets of your application. Additionally, you’ll want clinical and non-clinical volunteering experiences as well as time spent shadowing a physician.

Best of luck to you.
