I don't know that's true. I believe (at least some) schools offer more interviews than they have seats. Perhaps spots were available when letters were sent, but applicants who visit toward the end of the process will have to be wait-listed no matter how well they perform.
If nothing else, maybe call the college a few days before your interview-date to confirm seats are still open.
