Spring cleaning time!

I am wondering if it is worth it to keep any of my college textbooks.

I am definitely getting rid of most of them $-) but I am most likely keeping my bio book (for sentimental reasons)...

But I am also debating keeping my Systems Physiology book. I really don't want to... but I am afraid it may make a good reference since I am familiar with it (and its an actual book, and NYU has the books on disk)... or is it not worth it, since it probably isn't detailed enough?

Is there any other undergrad book you use.. or wish you still had?

Thanks,
Ally

I never keep any of my books. Most are not my books anyway, they are friends' books.
But my point is, I never keep them and I don't regret it. Internet has a wealth of information (look at credible sources only lol) and health sciences library too. So yeah, I don't see a point in keeping them. Too much baggage to carry around... I travel light 😀
My room in d-school will be small as it is and having the tons of books won't help any with the space problem.

Anywhooo, just my 2 cents.😎

Thanks a bunch. I am commuting from my home, so I do have some space (but i like money 🙂). I just thought sometimes when you know a book really well its easy to use... but I'm glad to hear people telling me to sell them. Thanks.

I say get rid of every single book. You will find different books for each discipline at your dental school (or med school) library + you have all the credible online sources + wikipedia to use. You will also still need to carry the books around, even if you decide to commute.

If you have any of the following books, keep them and you'll reuse them instead of buying new (losing money)

biochemistry
immunology
histology
anatomy & physiology

even keeping your chem, physics, bio and ochem would be strongly recommended.

Sell all the rest. This is just what I've gathered when asking dental students, I don't know if there are any others.

When are you ever going to review G or Orgainic Chem? These book are even useless for review in dental school. Biochem in dental school is not in depth enought to require a review of prior chem course.

Trash everything before dental school and buy no books in dental school - General rule I used. I bought so many books in the first year that I have never referrenced and will never. Most useless books are dental anatomy, immunology/histology, and some other which I can even recall because they are useless. However, I have bought more book since graduating dental school then while in dental school. The difference is, I choose what I want to study.

Any reading assignments you have to complete, and any material covered on exams, will be taken from texts recommended by the school. What's the point in learning from a book that the school doesn't even use? You'll be covering the wrong content entirely. Stick with the texts required by the dental school.

Well if they cover a topic in histology it may be in a different chapter in your undergrad book but it's in there. I've been told not to buy any books in dental school, just go over the lecture slides. Sounds good to me.
