  1. Dental Student
I applied to UCLA knowing it was a long-shot given that I'm out-of-state. I JUST got the postcard yesterday (Nov. 17) asking for the secondary application, $60 fee, and additional transcripts (cost is $15 from three colleges). I had known about this secondary app of course, but was waiting for it to be requested before I sent it in.

I feel that at this point, I have no chance of getting into UCLA because it's so late in the game and I had an extremely small chance to begin with. My stats are decent, I'm a non-traditional minority student which I consider my pros, but I have no research, average LORs, average ECs, barely average dental experience (just shadowing) all on top of being out-of-state.

Would you save the $75 if you were me? Would it be worth it to call Admissions/Noemi Benitez and ask what my chances are of getting in as an out-of-stater?

ask yourself if you want to go there.

Other peoples' opinions don't matter here.

First call and check if you have a chance to get in. But if they don't tell you, take an 'educated guess' to see if you have a chace of getting in. I know if I applied to UCLA with my stats I wouldn't get in as an out of state, so I wouldn't send my money. i.e If you have >3.5, >(20/20/20) I would say take your shot, otherwise forget about it. :meanie:

save your money.

I know a similar applicant last year, 22 DAT, 3.5 gpa, Minority, no research, non-traditional.. they gave here an interview in may and accepted her a week later w/ scholarship.. if you want to go to UCLA, send the money.... (btw, that applicant didnt end up going to UCLA)

It all boils down to how motivated you're going to be UCLA bound. But, I suppose you must have'd great stats making them sending you the secondary application package.

ERRONEOUS! everyone gets the postcard. dont feel special.

Thanks for the opinions. UCLA is actually my first choice, my "reach" school. I guess at this point I've already paid the money to send them my app and DAT scores, I might as well follow through and see what happens. I still think my chances are really, really low, though.

i know a guy that actually applied in dec or january, like actually submitted addsas then, what most would consider really late, but currently goes there now

i sent out a late application to F-UCLA..... after getting the post card from them abotu the secondary i withdrew my application.... and i would do anything to be in LA
