Hi SDN!

So I am not sure about whether or not to take a gap year before applying. I am going to be a junior this fall semester and therefore applying next spring.
Basically I had messed up my freshman year of college with horrible grades as I was dealing with some personal stuff. I decided to transfer to a college closer to home for second year and managed to get pretty decent grades, retaking all the courses I messed up in my last college, making mostly As. I am currently taking summer classes so I will be able to graduate by spring of 2018. I screwed up organic chemistry, however, so I have to retake that this fall.

My EC are pretty decent with solid shadowing( I also went on a Gap Medic trip for two weeks),regularly volunteering at a children's hospital and Kids Against Hunger. I also volunteer every year at the WS Open that happens in August. Plenty of research experience and am on a swimming team at my college. I will also be doing a study abroad during the spring break of 2017.

I haven't taken my MCAT yet but on my diagnostic tests I am getting around a 517.

I just want to know if I really should take a gap year or not? I heard I can't really boost my gpa anyways with it and all it will do is show me doing more EC. I really prefer not to take the gap year but I just wanted to know everyone's opinions.

Thank You!

GPA or GTFO

Just kidding, but seriously, always provide the details. It's very hard for someone to answer such a vague question. Your MCAT diagnostic is standard, it's what you do from now.

Sorry I didn't realize! My gpa is is a 3.7 currently at my current college but I do not know how my first college's gpa is going to affect this. So it would probably be around 3.6 overall. I am hoping to increase my gpa even higher with the summer classes I am taking and the two semesters I have left during the school year before applying.
