I've taken the GRE twice now. The program I'm applying to doesn't have a requirement but says the average accepted student is about 60th percentile. I didn't really study for them and I got 154 verbal(63rd) and 154 (56th) quantitative. The writing isn't back yet, but I'm usually a pretty good writer I'm not too worried about that. I have time to take it once more. Should I try again or not bother if the rest of my application is pretty strong?

If you think you can improve your score, go for it. But, that score will get you accepted to programs, pending an AW score of 4+

It can't hurt to take it again aside from cost. However, if your GPA looks good for your school then those are good scores.

My GPA is a 3.8, but I'm applying to Duke so I want to be as competitive as possible on all fronts. Thanks for the feedback!

If you didn't study, I'd take it again if I could study. Picking up a couple points shouldn't be hard and could take away some stress.

Why did you take it twice and not study for the 2nd time? Did your score improve much between the first and second? If you truly didn't study and have the time to study for it now, I would get it done....but only if the scores will be finalized before Duke reviews applications. Otherwise, it doesn't sound worth it. If you know you don't have the time to study for it, I also wouldn't retake it.

I was planning on studying the second time, I just didn't end up having as much time as I wanted to devote to it. Maybe a few hours total, if that. I will have more time to study for it now. Thanks for the input!
