Hello all,

I have been studying for the July 27th PCAT for a while now. While I have studied Chemistry and Biology extensively, I have not left much room to study math. I have forgotten pretty much everything about how to solve calc problems, such as limits, derivatives...but I'm sure that after a review, they will come back to my mind again. Can any experienced or knowledgeable PCAT taker tell me what are the most important formulas to memorize and most important concepts to know? Thank you

Are you using a PCAT prep book? The PCAT math section will cover basic math, algebra, probability/statistics, pre-calculus, and calculus.

unfortunately, I'm using Kaplan. I haven't even read the section because I've looked through it and it's like 30 pages total. Could that possibly be enough to cover all the concepts?

Hi, I say focus on the above topics & do what you can do fast. Don't ignore statistics - basics etc, 20 days is enough time to go over depending on how good you were with Math/ Calc. 1.

Okay! I mean, I'm not gonna go over any complicated word problems, but I feel the same way you suggest: that I should cover the basics and get familiar again with limits and log, etc... I think that should be enough

Many won't have time for complex word problems on the test - take a practice test to see what type of questions they ask. Good luck.

Thank you both for your input. I think I feel no pressure at all because I will have a chance to retake in September if I don't get such a good grade. Either way, I keep telling myself that everything I am studying right now I have seen many times before. It really isn't as hard as we make it.

What would you guys recommend to someone who is taking the PCAT without having taken calc? I'm taking the exam on July 20th and literally almost had a heart attack when I saw how much I didn't know on the math portion because there is so much calc.

Derivatives and integrals are like a different language to me

Thanks for the reply! Right now I just went through the math packet for Dr. Collins and got completely stuck when I got to the elementary calc portion when it got into derivatives and what not.

I also have the Kaplan Math & Verbal book which I'm going to start going over right now to see if their material in any better to learn calc.

Aside from these resources, would you guys recommend anything else for me to do in order to grasp all the calc that will be on the PCAT?

In 15 days? No, not really. Focus on what you know instead of trying to teach yourself a HUGE block of content that you honestly aren't going to get cold before taking the exam.
