Hopefully I'll have a good enough application to get some interviews. Assuming I do, what should I wear? Did everyone wear suits to their interviews?

I wore a suit. I think every guy I saw at my interview also wore a suit with jacket and tie.

Yes, I did too. Almost every other girl there (and guys too) also wore suits.

Yes, you definitely don't want to the token guy who shows up in a tshirt and everyone's secretly thinking "Whelp, one less person to worry about."

In three years of helping with admissions interviews, I have seen all kinds of clothes worn to interviews, denim suits on girls, weird red-green-patterned shirts and khakis on guys... I would say that vast majority of those I have seen again, in the fall after their interview, wore regular dark-colored suits. 😀

make sure it's bright red though so you stand out! 🙂

I would definitely go with a suit. You will hear different ideas of what kind of suit, pin striped=power suit and all that but what is important is that you are professional and show up in a suit. I think you should also show that you at least know something about professional dress by having your belt match your shoes. No white socks!
Brown shoes=brown belt. It isn't hard but sometimes it can be missed.

Also if you use the search function I know there was a long discussion on this last year around interview time.
Also you are just an average size guy, not the biggest selection, and don't want to spend money you can pick up a basic suit at the goodwill for almost nothing. The suits are nothing special but they are perfectly acceptable at an interview. Get it dry cleaned and you are ready to go. You could also watch Men's Warehouse for sales over next couple months. That is where I ended up getting my suit, I was extremely happy with the price and the level of customer service. They are extremely helpful and happy to make suggestions and show you all the shirt tie arrangements you can handle.

Good Luck with interviews!

you better wear a suit because if you don't you will be the only one that doesn't.

I didn't wear the jacket, though about 75% of the guys there did, but I still looked very presentable. I just don't really like jackets and I had a hard time finding one that fit to my liking.

It wasn't long before people had theirs off at my interview day - however, when it was time to be interviewed - everyone was decked out once again...

Fork out the money for a nice suit - you will be glad you did. I have worn mine 3 or 4 times since the interview. Quite a bit for a person who doesn't ever where that type of thing.

Too bad I can't find a really cheap one at Walmart. I'll have to go one step higher - JC Penney and Sears.

I can't even wrap my mind around the idea of somebody showing up to an interview that will literally determine the course of the rest of their life, and not wearing a suit. It just floors me.

SUIT SUIT SUIT- YES YES YES
and don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
I researched (on the web. hahaha, "research"), and it is recommended you wear a suit if male, and a SKIRT suit or a long skirt with a collared shirt, if female. I don't know why a skirt and not a pantsuit, but it is recommended. And i must say, I believe it looks better, too. Something about a skirt suit says "Yes, i am a confident woman." lol
The colors recommended are dark blue or grey. Black is too formal for an interview, and is also a color associated with being reserved. People who wear colors that are not black seem more approachable. (remember, this is recommended, not law)
I went to Walmart for my clothes (always low prices... always.)I got a long black skirt, a blue crisp shirt, a low heeled shoe and stockings (a MUST for the ladies if you're going to be showing your legs. No one wants to see stubbly pores or veins) for under 30 bucks. And in my opinion, I looked more professional than most women that were also getting interviewed.

I went to my interview and saw people wearing floral patterned dresses and see-through tops, golf shirts... and I thought... are you serious? you do NOT look professional.
and if i thought that, imagine what the admissions committee must have thought.

be classy, professional, and dress the part. impress, impress, impress! you are what the admissions committees are "shopping for"... be a desirable product.

I wonder what the association is with a dark brown.

Sounds good. I'm down if everyone else does it too. Then you can't get penalized based on attire---because nobody else will have any either. =P
