I have a question about my experience with an admissions officer at a school I am interviewing at. I recently rescheduled my interview at a school I will not name. In the past, I was told that rescheduling doesn't reflect negatively on the applicant. Despite this, when I emailed an admissions officer he made it seem like I essentially screwed myself at this school. At the end of the email, he said, "Thanks for giving us ample amount of time to reschedule your interview & have another qualified candidate take your slot." I am not sure if this guy was just being a bit snarky or if I actually probably messed up my chances at this school. This is a bit of a neurotic post but I was hella annoyed when I read this email considering how hard it was to get the interview in the first place.

I think you are looking into it way to hard. If the only thing that you're going off of is that statement that you quote then I would just relax. I know some people cancel the day of the interview. This makes the school lose out on that spot. Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the encouragement

Did the email come from an actual Admissions Dean or Chair? Or just from some overworked secretary???

To me, this reads like they meant it literally. They appreciated you giving them sufficient notice to allow them to reach out to someone else and fill your slot rather than have your spot go unfilled and waste an interview date. In my mind, it doesn't read snarky or sarcastic at all.

Shoot maybe I’m just over thinking the email as well, but I read that as somewhat snarky. Just my .2. But emails can be hard to interpret tone from.

Seems like a genuine email. Also, it would be highly unprofessional to add sarcasm/cynicism in any email like this to an interviewee--and every admissions person definitely knows that. Therefore, they wouldn't dare intentionally send something like "Gee thanks for letting us know, d-bag". Furthermore, seems like your interview has been rescheduled, no?--So all is well!

Take a chill-pill and have fun

Although if you're in for a good journey, you can peruse the forums about weird emails and mishaps from medical school ACOMs, residency program directors, and residency programs. Lol

Another vote for "they meant it genuinely." Adcoms and staff probably deal with a lot of people pulling out of the interview at the last possible minute and wasting their time preparing interviewers, scheduling etc.

Think you're reading too much into it.

On the contrary, I think their wording was implying that they could, in fact, fill your position with a viable candidate and you did not back them into a wall on finding a replacement.

You're fine, and I don't think there was any wrongdoing of this school. Deep breaths.
