Campbell University (CUSOM)
Pros
  • Higher board scores and their tests, quizzes, and their OSCEs mimic the boards (see below)
  • Closer to "things to do" - Raleigh airport 43 miles away, shopping centers close by, beach close by, other major cities under an hour away.
  • I play golf - they are right next to a golf course!
  • Better research opportunities (close to the research triangle)
  • Closer to family and only 3 hour drive from where I am currently
  • Has associated ACGME accredited programs (ACGME Residencies)
Cons
  • Mandatory attendance and dress code
  • Not as good as a "gut feeling" compared to NYITCOM-JB
  • Newer name (arguably, NYITCOM JB is "newer" but the name is older)

NYITCOM-JB
Pros
  • Best "gut-feeling" between the two
  • I am genuinely interested in the opportunity to serve in Arkansas (which really needs physicians) after graduating
  • Jonesboro immediate area has more to do
  • Less than an hour drive from Memphis (not as close as Raleigh is to Campbell)
  • More in line with my mission to reach out to local schools to teach nutrition, basic health sciences, and get local high schoolers interested in STEM (more opportunities than Campbell)
  • Has the name of NYITCOM associated with the school
  • Shared resources between the two campuses
  • Non-mandatory attendance and true P/F system with ranking
  • Telemedicine and population health certificated available
  • You can apply for the scholar's program and if accepted you can have the last 2 years of medical school paid for
Cons
  • Far away from home (14 hour drive)
  • Lower board scores in general (see below)
  • Has not had a graduating class (no residency list to look at)
  • No associated residency programs

Summary: Was leaning more towards NYITCOM-JB because of their mission. However, CUSOM will most likely give me better career opportunities if I choose to pursue something other than primary care. Any thoughts?
