That's really all we needed to know. You're in.

I'm not sure what your chances are to tell you the truth. I think the common misconception among students nowadays (and those of us who applied last year had this problem last year too) is that some magic combination of #'s and EC's will get you into a school. It just, for some unknown reason, doesn't work that way. There's no way to know for sure what anyone's chances are.

I'd say you have a solid chance, but you should apply to a wide array of schools including lower tier schools as well.

From what I have heard and read the sheer number of Texas schools that weigh heavily towards residents is a big advantage. That being said, your ECs look very good and your GPA is certainly competitive. Your MCAT score does nothing to hurt your case, so I would say with applications going to all the Texas schools that your chances are very good.

Yup Texas, Vermont, or Ohio residency is very very good.
California residency........ not so hot. 🙂

Great chance, I think!!

It?s very hard to say??there is no perfect formula. Just wait until others have posted here with lower states and got in while others with higher didn?t. Many have said?.?It?s a crap shoot??.gawd I hope so?.. 😀

Who would have ever thought that Californians would be facing discrimination?

It is amazing that a Vermont state resident with a 25 on the MCAT has a very good chance at admission. This is an example of a very subtle form of discrimination that people may not be aware of.

Note to self: in case of life-threatening illness, do not seek affordable healthcare at Vermont teaching hospitals.

keberson,

do you plan on staying in tx? while nothing in this process is ever certain, i would feel comfortable with your stats in tx. the only thing that could hurt you is being an aggie.

I think you have a good chance. Your GPA and MCAT score aren't stellar, but they are solid enough to give you a shot. Like others have said, there's no magic formula of GPA/MCAT that will guarantee you anything. I know someone with a 40 MCAT and 4.0 GPA who did not get into med school (certainly got to lots of interviews though). But you should get interviews, especially at your state universities. Good luck!

That only hurts you outside of Texas....it's a bonus in-State 👍

thanks for all the comments guys...nobody has anything negative to say. This makes me feel a lot better but I'm always the one to be a pessimist.

Keep in mind that it doesn't really matter what fellow SDNers think your chances are. There's only so much to be said about stats, and no one except for the adcoms know exactly why students are accepted or rejected. While I realize that a lot of people just need a little reassurance (heck, I was tempted to post one of these threads when I was applying), the real question is, can you identify the weaknesses in your application and do something about them?

Best of luck to you.
