This may have been asked before, but I was curious which other medical specialties general surgeons dislike the most? My guess is anesthesiology. I noticed a general animosity between the two groups.

Well to start with everyone hates the dumping ground that is the ER and their physicians, but I would also add anesthesiologists and radiologists.

General surgeons hate everyone and life in general.

At my place the surgeons and the Gas-guys get along quite well. The surgeons always b$tch about the ER. They also don't like the IR guys who embolize something, leading to a complication that gets admitted to and cleaned up by GenSurg.

GS here hates the ED.

Depending on the day, they also hate anesthesia due to the "MAFAT" between surgeries.

This seems like a pointless type thread, but hopefully it will serve as bait for a classic mysterioso posting

As an aside, I loved Dead Like Me and was so pissed when it (along with Carnivale) went off the air.

hopefully the mod will get tired of the word "hate" and close this thread.

And since we hating, I hate family med rotation that am on now but the hours are amazing (8-2p)😀

good night

Many of the old guard general surgeons really dislike plastic surgery. If you are a student or GS resident interested in plastics you should keep it to yourself.

I didn't know that anyone else was watching Carnivale 😱

You'd figure the two of us would have been enough to keep it going.

Jeez, I'll echo that. It's worse than coming out of the closet to Fred freakin' Phelps.

If you record the moment you reveal an interest in plastics to someone close to you in slow-mo, you can literally see their good opinion of you melt away. Like Poltergeist.

yep take a number, you are behind medicine, obgyn, and even sometimes psychiatry, those GI guys really dont like ED.

In general, we get along really well with the anesthesiologists.
In my program, we hate the ED the most....followed by the ED....followed by the ED. I am so tired of, "I don't know. I didn't examine the patient. I just got signout from the last guy. It doesn't matter, I want a surgical consult, so come see the patient."

Definitely the ER. And not the ER across the board, there are some really good ER docs at our program. But I HATE the ER docs who call and demand a surgical eval on a patient who has had zero workup and who they haven't even examined, and usually these are the ones who make it a point to say nastily, "well, you still need to come down here, and I'm sure the answers to all your questions are in the chart."

😡

Sorry. I guess I'm venting a little. I just went down to the ED to see a purported strangulated umbilical hernia, spent ten minutes searching diligently for anything resembling a hernia, then had the ED ATTENDING tell me, "oh, sorry, the patient told me he had a bulge on his belly that he couldn't push back in so I figured I should give you guys a call. I didn't actually see it myself though..."

Grrr....

thats not just bad Emeregency Medicine, thats bad Medicine in general. As far as "hatin on the ED" get in line...🙂 Since your a resident its hard to be confrontational, but it definitely needs to be brought up that you're getting consults that are inappropriate, especially if it is a resident-resident consult.

If you think it's bad now, wait until you get into private practice. It's been my experience that General Surgeons tend to be most aggravated by internal medicine. Some of them are very good, and some of them couldn't diagnose a toothache if it was their own. smetimes it makes for some just plain unnecessary surgery. Some of those internal medicine bozos just happen to specialize in emergency medicine.

Your post makes no sense.
