to fellow canadians -

anyone else?

Not me... I called them today and they were so rude. They gave me the "we are sending secondaries right now." Yeah, like that really helps.

I'm not in it either... I tried to call, but got voicemail again today. I'll try again on Monday.

Hopefully this thing will sort itself out!

Well I'm not canadian, but I am an international student and I just checked the site. My file became complete Nov 21...now I'm waiting for that reject letter <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I am Canadian. I submitted my AMCAS app 7/21, received the Stanford secondary early November and I just checked the status page, and I am now 'file complete.'

I don't have the super high GPA that you have brandonite, but I think I had good recommendation letters and interesting essays. Well, I'm hoping for an interview, we'll see :)

Hang in there though!

I just checked my mail and I got a rejection letter without the secondary.
I am so happy. :)

Gulp. I hope that isn't a bad sign... Stanford is really high on my list...

Anyway, congratulations Legi?? You seem to be happy, so, all the power to you.

I'm going to try and call again on Monday and see if I can't figure out what's going on.

I cannot belive how ungrateful you ppl are. Did you not read my post "important message to canadians applying to stanford"?

I worked my ass off resolving this problem for all of us with the foreign hold status, i hired a lwayer, called nany tillinghast, director of amcas, and had her settle things with stanford. Stanford realized they were holding our applications unjustifiably and has resolved it. I have been in touch with them since the problem was resolved on thursday -- when i checked the updated status i too was concerned so i spoke to the ppl in charge - - why on earth are u guys dealing with the ppl who answer the phone - they don't know what's going on with this special situation. There software is having major problems with Canadian applications so they are BYPASSING the software and just reviewing the applications anyway--the status check won't update files b/c it is linked write now to the software glitch. GEEZ

I worked so hard to resolve all of this and then am kind enough to post a message to all Canadian here to tell them what has been going on and not one thank you!!

last time i post any helpful info here!

It doesn't sound like that many people were affected by your action. I'm quite sure you did work hard, but from reading the above posts it looks like only one person here may have been affected positively by what you did, and I stress may. I'm also quite sure your action was in your own best interest and as far as I can tell...actually informing applicants of the action really didn't change much, as they would have had their file reviewed without them doing anything additionally since you resolved the problem. Thus, I personally wouldn't take such great offense from a lack of adulation. As neither a Canadian citizen, nor a Stanford applicant...I would say just be grateful for a chance at altruism.

Thank you Osler..even though I'm not canadian

Geez...I just re-read my last post and i am ahamed. i apologize for being such an ass.

none - while it is true I initially acted to resolve this issue on my behalf (after all, i didn't know others were in this same situation), once i found out that all canadians were being placed on hold, I DID ask stanford to rectify this for all of us...i have email correspondence to prove that I was fighting for the processing of all canadian applications. I decided to start a thread "important message for canadians applying to stanford" to allay any fears and worries as i know there has been enough worrying this application year...i just tried to help but to expect a thank you was wrong of me...i apologize.

Osler - We know that Canadians have gotten secondaries from Stanford before, so there is a chance that it is not a problem for all Canadians. And Legi here seems to have gotten his rejection letter despite the problems. So, it seems that certain Canadians are having a lot of problems. And from the best I understood from your previous post, you were mainly dealing with your application (as could be expected), so I wasn't sure if my application was being removed from this 'hold' status. So, I wanted to do the responsible thing and see what the status of my application was with Stanford and AMCAS.

I didn't understand from your previous post that the 'hold' thing was a problem that DEFINITELY affected all Canadians. I just understood it to be a problem with your application that was potentially the same problem that we all had.

I think we had a misunderstanding here... I think that if I could get ahold of someone on the phone at Stanford, they could tell me if my application was in this 'hold' status that you are talking about, and then I could go from there. I think it would be irresponsible of me just to assume that the same thing that happened to you happened to me, and that it was no solved...

So, I apologize if you got the wrong idea, and I'm greatful for the work you have done thus far. However, I'm still going to go ahead and call on Monday, and find out the status of my application, and go from there.

Hi brandonite,

Certainly you should call on Monday! May I recommend that you call this number:

650-724-5516.

This is a direct line to admissions counselor Juhn Verano who is very familiar with the canadian application problems. This way u don't have to speak to the secretaries at the front office who always seem to be rude. Juhn, on the other hand, is very pleasant and he will know what u r talking about.

Best of luck,
Sir William Osler of the Dr. Wilder Penfield Institute

I have been talking to Patricia Perez, who is also an admissions counsellor. But I'll give Juhn a call on Monday - Patricia never seems to answer her phone. And that way, I won't have to explain the whole thing to her again...

Again, thanks for your help Sir Osler! I'm sorry if you got the wrong idea - we do really appreciate all the work you've done for us!

i am glad to see my little innocent post has sparked a mini debate.

to brandonite: would you mind explicitly asking juhn if this problem applies to ALL canadians right now? i am curious

i sent an e-mail asking them for resolve of this problem and they just simply said that my application is now under review. do you suppose that this is what osler referred to?

thanks to all

I will ask him that, in those exact words. Although perhaps Osler might be able to answer that already... But, I suppose it's always better to have confirmation.

There was another poster on another thread who was Canadian who got a secondary already, and Legi got a rejection. So, it must be a problem with some (most??) Canadians.

Things always tend to be a bit controversial on the internet... ;)
