When I sent my last update it was added to my application, but I didn't get an email response from Arturo. Maybe I finally crossed the annoying threshold?

Too many updates might jeopardize your position. Stay calm for another week or so, and if it has to happen it will happen!!!!!🙂

I only sent an update and a letter at the end of March maybe. So 6 weeks ago. I don't really have much else to say...so I'm trying to resist the urge. Well, i do have much else to say...but I don't want to sound desperate 🙂

I'm in the same boat - I sent my LOI/Begging Letter last month, and I'm torn about whether or not to send another basically saying "hi! yeah...I'd still punch a baby dolphin in the face to get in....yeaaaaah...."

also, if you haven't seen the dolphin/whale south park episode, see it now. NOW

I sent my LOI/"if i got in, i'd go" letter at the end of March as well and have been so tempted to send a brief email as well! I pretty much just wanted to reassure them that a month later, I still want to go really bad...I saw Dean Pizzo's response to the US News Rankings...it was pretty defensive so I almost just wanted to send a brief email to reassure that I'm still set on Stanford despite the slight drop in rankings. I think it's a bad idea though because I don't want them to think I felt the need to do so because of that. UGH. this is too complicated.

Basically, I don't have any real updates and I think that one solid letter is strong enough and sufficient on its own. I think the LOI is important, but who gets off the WL is really based on things out of our control...

Well said! "It is out of our control". Let's assume 29 are accepted from the wait list. That does not guarantee you a seat. Stanford makes sure that they meet the distribution curve (30 percent Biological Sciences, 6 percent PhD's, etc. etc. In addition Stanford meets the diversity requirement too, as well as the male/female ratio). A lot of variables have to be met. Wait list is not ranked, however I firmly believe there must be some informal ranking in each of the groups. Bottom Line: There is a method to this madness!🙂🙁🙂🙂🙂👍😕

, I hope you find other means to convey your feelings. Dr. Garcia might like baby dolphins....

But ....*ahem*....f*** u whale! and f*** u dolphin!

It's sad...but there are actually multiple episodes of south park involving whales. "siiiii.....flyyyyy....." tom cruise recently joined one of them on the moon.

And, just an FYI. I am a bonafide south park expert. I've seen every episode probably between 5-10 times each.

oh butters. 5 days 10 hours until May 15th 🙂 Gosh, I still really want to go here. I had a long talk with a friend who lived in SF this weekend, and it made me just realize how much I'd like to move to the West Coast for 4 years and try something new.

When do you think movement will start? Since May 15 is a Saturday this year, we may have to wait until the 17th???

I was wondering about that too...maybe they'll be at the office on Sat? It's kind of an important day...I can't see them not working this weekend, because they need to quickly assess their yield and fill their class...

I like the positivity, but I doubt that waiting until Monday would put them too far behind. They only have 86 seats and it's likely that 50 or so already accepted applicants will matriculate.

Well...last year May 15th fell on a Friday and it seemed like people found out over the weekend. There were also people who found out as late as mid-June. So, I imagine there's still potentially a lot of waiting for all of us (haha, and many of us will probably end up hearing nothing!).

I'm starting to know what that feels like. Northwestern sent me an email earlier last week stating that I was still "very high" on their alternates list and that they'd know in a few days. That was for MSTP and their deadline was April 30th (as opposed to May 15th). I have yet to hear word back and I'm beginning to think that they either: 1. Will contact me in June, or 2. Will never contact me. It's quite a frustrating situation.

EDIT: As a consequence of this line of thought I've decided to internally commit to whatever school I've been accepted at two weeks after May 15th. That way I don't spend my summer thinking "what if..." So by the end of this month when someone asks me "Where are you going to school?" I'll be able to tell them with certainty.

I could never do that, I admire you haha

Wow, that's sort of annoying on Northwestern's part. I'd maybe give them a call. Can't really hurt at this point.

I've already internally committed in my mind (didn't we all have to pick a school by May 15th?). After writing my 7th withdrawal letter, I'm pretty OK with Sinai and totally happy going there.

On a separate note...does Stanford let waitlisted students who get accepted defer a year? There's a part of me still considering spending next year at Cambridge (long story) to get a Masters Degree.

Yeah, I read your other post about your unfunded Cambridge acceptance. If you do get a master's at Cambridge you might well stand a chance at getting into UPenn, Stanford, or Harvard next application cycle. It'd be very risky to give up an acceptance though. I'm not sure if Stanford allows wait listed acceptees to defer.

a bird in hand is worth two in the bush - especially with as lovely a bird as he has.

Haha... I would never give up my acceptance and re-apply. God that sounds dreadful. MDeast is definitely never going through this process again. Defer maybe? Re-apply definitely not. MD is my main degree, it comes first.

oh dear, the thought of going through this process again makes me so nauseous and anxious...so glad it will be over soon. if you're fortunate enough to even have one acceptance, you should go! it's not like applying to law school, where you write one essay and never interview...hear back 6 weeks later. this is a grueling and excruciating process that takes away a year of your life! also, i don't think there are things that could make us substantially "better" applicants within a year (unless you did poorly on the mcat and i don't think that's an issue for any of us). We know we're good, and if one school's admissions committee can't see it, their loss!

MD, do you think Stanford is now your top choice? For some reason I always thought your "dream" was Penn?

I was in one of the first tour groups to be able to sneak in and see it, which I guess we weren't supposed to do - I kept thinking to myself that if I didn't get in it would suck just because I'd know how the other side lives....

As impressive in person as it is online? Ach only a few more days! I'm so so nervous/anxious.

Way more impressive in person. I want it to have my child.

Also, if someone is reading this out there in Palo Alto, I'd still punch a dolphin in the face to get in. They deserve it anyway.

Twenty bucks to anyone who'd be willing to call Arturo and ask if the waitlist is moving this year 🙂

I think SDN still owes me $ for guessing that Mount Sinai's night would end up at Dorians! That being said, if some one actually would pay, I totally would ask... what's the worst he could do other than say "I don't know"?

Haha, if we both end up at Sinai, I will definitely give you that twenty bucks.

He might ask who you are and then hang up. That'd ruin my day. :scared:

Haha, well you can always lie about your name...

In all seriousness, I'd just email him? Really, its a simple question "Dear Arturo, while I know how difficult it is to gauge the waitlist, I was wondering if you had any idea when I could expect to hear from Stanford, either good or bad news. I ask because, as you imagine, I want to begin planning for the transition and would greatly appreciate a sense of timing for closure.

Best,

Sounds scary. :scared:

^ That was mainly an excuse to use the cute scared smiley face.

this thread is always so active in the mornings then dies down by the evening..what gives?

I think it's the dynamic of West and East Coasters. I'm on the West Coast so when I wakeup there are new posts from the East Coasters, and I respond to them!

Because I leave work at 5? And all the fun goes with me? 😀
