OMGZ. Do you think Garcias will call at 9:30 PM on a Saturday night?!?!?!

Mmmm....drinking time. Toodles.

Edit: Woot! Page 6. So sad.

sorry i cannot hear you..im kinda busy.

Just a second....It’s my favorite song they’re gonna play and I cannot text you with a drink in my hand, eh?

start calling start calling i don't want to wait anymore..i left my head and my heart on the admissions floor

hmmm...maybe it actually will be june before we actually hear anything?

*hopes he's wrong*

Ugh... a friend called me today and obviously my heart just went beserk ... then I pick up and she's like "ahahahaha, hows ur heart rate..."

Haha, i predict...No one is getting a call today. It's way too late. So sleep well 🙂

I predict tomorrow will be a day of reckoning for me at several schools. I've gotta sign a lease soon too.

blurg.

ooo real estate. Where are you going?

did you find your manhattan penthouse yet, mdeast?

Ooohhh. Yes. It's called Aron Hall. And, to be honest, it's pretty sweet housing for NYC. The roof apartments are awesome. Wrap around balcony outside of your room with views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline? I'll take that.

The views of the mountains from the top floor student lounge/gym in the new med school building would be nice too.

The best were the views from the UCSF gym/library hands down...

Mdeast, do you know when housing forms are due for Mount Sinai??

Absolutely no idea. Considering they haven't even emailed us about this yet....I think we're OK.
Haha, wish I would have had the opportunity to see that view 🙂 Although, I've already decided I'm doing an away rotation at UCSF regardless of where I attend.

How do away rotations work?? don't you have to be invited to do them?

(Not 100% sure) But, I think you apply for them, sort of like applying for med school. Unless (like at Sinai revisit) you have some prof at your school, who knows another prof and you make an informal connection. They're pretty common to be honest...I've run into people at Penn from other medical schools. When I was at Stanford there were some med students from the East Coast who actually dropped into the admissions office to pick up applications for it while I was waiting for my interview.

They're done more in fourth year than third year...and often as sort of "extended interviews" for residency programs. So, you'd apply to one at a school you really wanted to go to. More commonly done for ultra competitive specialties (like Plastics, Ortho, etc.). I know some Cali schools looking more favorably on it if you're an East Coaster who doesn't have connections to Cali but want to do residency there. Proves you're serious/interested in moving.

I'm sort of in that boat, which is one the reasons why I'm so interested in Stanford. Good luck all btw. I predict waitlist movement today or tomorrow.

I'm excited for today! Good luck everyone!!

👍:luck::xf:

I'm gonna be very upset if at least one of us "consistent posters" doesn't get in.

Two months of reading the same thread every morning. Whew, I can't wait for some news!

SDN needs a live chat or something so we can discuss this in real time lol..give me something to do today

ah for ****s sake - I need to tell people not to call me unless it's an emergency, my heart rate goes through the roof every time my phone rings.

How do you know people will find out today...and not in June like the letter said?
Did anyone call?

i suppose it's possible that last year was just an anomaly and they had to go to the waitlist a lot earlier (and more often) than they normally would

hahaha ok. Just was curious. I am hanging onto 5 waitlists...and I am so sick of the "am I going to this school" or "will I maybe go to these 5 schools" thing.

haha me too.

I want to think that it sucks for them to wait it out to fill a class...so they don't delay in wl acceptances...

but then again..I know a bunch of people who got in the week before school...and that terrifies me

I think the last-minute movement is due to deferrals. Suppose mdeast defers (for Cambridge or whatnot) after getting accepted to Stanford. That frees up a space at Stanford, makes one less person on the waitlist at all other schools where he's waitlisted, and has this cascade effect that results in 1 more person who doesn't have any acceptances getting in somewhere.

So if you aren't accepted in say...the next two weeks??...do your chances go down dramatically?

In fairness to other applicants and to housing applications, financial aid, etc, schools *should* accept the majority of their waitlisted applicants sooner rather than later. But, it's still up to them.

Haha. Don't use me as example! I actually withdrew from Cambridge this weekend cause I couldn't justify it financially 🙂

I'm just hoping someone here's something to do...or I have this sinking feeling that Stanford is fully enrolled.

would you guys go to stanford if you were accepted the day before classes started? I've heard of this happening at a couple places (namely Penn).

That'd be tough (especially because I'm on the East Coast and would have to make housing arrangements)...but I might consider it. That sounds like a ridiculous story to tell your kids.

Yes, because I'd want to live there for 4 years rather than Boston because it's closer to my family. However, if the waitlist moves without me during these next two weeks, I'm still going to "give up hope" so I can enjoy my summer. But...I'll probably still call now and then to see if there are any openings.

I know people this happened to at Penn and Yale, but I am really into being settled by mid summer. I think I will withdraw from wl by July if I havent heard anything and get rid of that temptation

Yup. I think 'August' waitlist movement is exceedingly rare. Even July movement is pretty rare. We should all probably know by then.

Grrr. So impatient. Sort of tempted to call Arturo, but I'm resisting.

Just call....or have a random friend call...I doubt they will even ask your name. Just say you were curious if/when wl movement would happen...

The problem with calling Stanford is that their website says "Please don't call." And, when you try to call they have a series of voice answering systems that direct your call. I remember trying to talk to them a while back but I couldn't get a human.

EDIT: I should mention that last year someone said they got a phone call at 9:41 pm on the East Coast (6:41 pm in Cali), so we may just have to wait a few more hours guys (and gals)!

Thats....really lame.

we should form an alliance with another waitlist thread. they can call stanford's admissions office looking for info and we can call theirs 😛
