Hey guys,

So I am in my freshman year taking a concentrated Pre-Med program at my school to better prepare me for the MCAT & medical school. However, just graduating from high school I am feeling a little nervous about the whole EC idea. Right now I am taking 4 classes as well as working 3 to 4 times a week (4 hrs Wed & Fri and 8 Hrs Sat & Sunday). I am holding off on EC's until the second semester of my freshman year because I want to ease the transition into university. I have to work to be able to afford everything I need and want such as be able to travel for 2 months in the summer. The reason I feel nervous is because I feel I have no time for EC's. Even if I did find myself having enough time, I am not quite sure if, by the time I finish my undergrad, I will have sufficient shadowing/volunteer hours.

Has anyone ever felt they have been in the same position as I and what have you done to overcome it?

You'll have time for ECs in your third year. Chill. you're just a freshman.

Your first priority is great grades. Once you adjust to the learning style required to get As in the coursework, which is more concentrated than what you're accustomed to from HS, you can slowly add in the ECs. Good time management and making mature decisions, is essential to fit everything in and work besides. But many have managed it, and likely, you will too. Just take it slow for now and don't rush yourself.

It should be illegal to read SDN before sophomore year of college.

👍

Hang in there, OP. You JUST started college. It takes some time to get used to it. By second semester you should have a routine down and may find time for some ECs.

But remember, you JUST started college. Who knows? By the time you finish out this semester you may have changed you mind about your major anyway! 😱

Chill...and good luck!
