Starting your own company?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I started a Snowboard shop and a concert / party promotion business in college. I also worked tom make sure that I made money. The Snowboard business basically funded my snowboarding habits. The concert business was a ton of work and lots of fun and I learned a ton working with record lables, venues, marketing, advertising etc. I took home a few thousand for lots of work over a year. I think starting a business in school will not bring you lots of $$$ but it will teach you alot and look good on a resume, remeber you do not have to say how successful your business was on your resume. After college these experiences motivated to start my own business. I have started several since college, some successful and some utter failures. My last venture was a multi-specialty clinic which ultimately led me to apply to med school.

I am from Colorado and used to get in about 40 - 60 days of boarding in a year. I even had an amateur sponsorship with Burton (free board, cloths, etc) and a couple of other companies. I now live in Chicago. There is no place to go here. The trash mounds they call slopes are a joke. Anyways, College businesses / bands etc are great experiences I miss those days.

Yes! I had my own ebay store. Kind of like NastyGal but less successful 😀

Not a business per se, but I did used to play music professionally freelance. I used to write too. I made decent enough money to have an apartment in Brooklyn. I've been thinking about starting up a custom furniture building business, but my time is limited.

I have a small part-time business doing henna. I've been doing it since high school ~3-10 hrs a week. Not a whole lot of $$ but much more than any part-time job could give

Started a wedding cinematography studio and commercial videography business during 3rd year of med school with two of my non med school friends.

Took it from nothing to $100k gross sales in 18 months. Sold out my stake in the company when residency started and I had no more time.
