hey beaten can you provide the mark breakdown for your mcat, future students would probably like that information.

I recently go an interview with RCSI at the end of the month.
I have to admit that judging from the GPA's I am seeing on this website I really suprised i got an interview. I went to U of T and then later to U of W
My U of T Gpa was not good at all, i actually feel embarassed to post it on here. Whatever u are thinking , it is worse? but I have been attending University of Winnipeg and i have 4.1/4.5 GPA. My MCAt was 29

Anybody here interviewed already. Any tips will be very much appreciated.

Dude, a 3.9/4.0 in Winnipeg is probably a 3.6/4.0 at UofT. It's 10x tougher there.

while were at it lets start comparing the toughness of each program... heh. (sarcasm)

Well to tell u the truth i went to both schools, Material they study are not that much different. The only think i can say for certain is that at U of W u walk out of the class feeling like u learned something. U of T is really more hype than anything. I can say that for certain. Did u go to any of these schools? Anyways I hope somone answers my original question.

Where did he say he had a 3.6 at UofT? I thought he only said he did really, really, badly there. Anyway, a 4.1 at Manitoba could be anywhere between 3.74 and 3.88 on a 4.0 scale, because 80-89 counts as 4 out of 4.5.

Anyway, everyone knows history and philosophy at Brock is the hardest degree eva!😀 Seriously though, a friend of mine TAs at UofT. Comparing marking criteria we discovered that at least in history UofT is definitely harder (I TAd for another school in history as well). It is likely more program dependent than school dependent.

No one really cares. But to answer the OP's original question: if you do a search on these boards for "RCSI Interview," you will find some posts that are pertinent, and that may even give you details on the types of questions they ask during the interview. Congrats, and good luck!

Hey Guys, I got an invitation today from ABP for an interview w/ RCSI for the 6 year program. I spoke with Mr.Nealon today and booked for the 28th of February.

I plan to apply to the 6 year degree but I don't know If I qualify, I have a degree in education with no science background at all.

Oh I didnt see the reply to my message haha! Thanks for the info guys!

It has been shown that a lot of students entering medical school end up with totally different specialties than what they predicted beforehand. So dont be surprised if you end up doing something other than surgery.

I see that you still have to write the MCAT - this might result in a later response from the irish schools. Good luck, study hard, and aim for 30+.

New to this forum!

I received an interview invite for RCSI last week. Interview is scheduled for February 28th in Toronto.

I'm from Ontario, Canada and have a BHSc from McMaster University.
Stats are as follows: GPA 3.91, MCAT 36P (13 BS, 13 PS, 10 VR)

Best of luck to fellow interviewees and those still waiting to receive news.

Please kindly withdraw your application as you are making me look bad😉. Seriously though, have you considered the U.S.? Those stats you could get into some Ivy league schools I would think. Amazing MCAT.

Perhaps sparrows cure cancer?

All of these high MCATs worry me. I don't stand a chance. Damn ABP's late application policy!

I wouldnt stress too much about it. I am almost confident that within a year, you and me will be having pints at some fancy irish pub 😀

So you are going to sabotage the other interviewees...

Thanks for the kind words! Keeping my fingers crossed:xf:.

Hey, I am in Sydney, Australia. I have called for an RCSI interview next week. What do I prepare for? Please help me out.

Thanks.

Hi everyone! I agree that it would be great to meet all of you over a few pints in Ireland. For now, I have an interview for RCSI (GEP) on the 28th. Maybe I'll see a few of you there.

Good Luck everyone on your applications and interviews.

Paris55 : I was told to know a bit about the curriculum of RCSI, why I want to be a doctor, how I was prepared to pay for my education and to be prepared to discuss my academic and extracurricular history.

Hey Queen of Hearts,

could you maybe elaborate on some of your extra extracurriculars?

So far looks like RCSI likes UofT.

It's not that RCSI likes UofT, you will find that most canadians studying in all other Irish schools are also from UofT. It's just the sheer number of UofT graduates compared to other schools, along with their malignant curriculum and tough marking which pushes people outside.

I figured that out after I wrote it. I am also trying to justify why I did not get an interview. Considering Ontario has a 19.1% acceptance rate compared to like 25% for the rest of the country, GTA is hardest in Ontario, and UofT tends to crush gpas, it makes sense.

Hi Der kaiser,

Yes UofT likes to kill our GPAs and I think most international schools appreciate that.

I have volunteered (like most pre-meds) at Mount Sinai hospital for the last few years. Last summer, I went over to Sri Lanka to volunteer at teaching hospitals in their capital city Colombo. Besides volunteering I have done research in a plant genetics lab. I told them about my sports/music/arts stuff too. My best guess is that they want to see that we are well rounded and are actively pursuing and are interested in the medical sciences. This is just my opinion, but from what I have seen it seems helpful to have completed a major in life sciences.

I didn't capitalize the pronoun "I" in the last sentence of my essay. Will this jeopardize my chances of admission?

are you serious? I dont think they will care.. as long as the rest of your essay is good.

Yes they will not accept you. Not only that, they will make sure no other university will accept you, EVER. Why would you do that?!

My country of citizenship is: US
Currently studying: Graduated in 2008 with B.S. Biology, B.A. Spanish; Currently working as Research Tech II at Baylor College of Medicine
At this University: Texas State University
My GPA is: 3.6 (science gpa and non-science gpa equal)
My MCAT Scores were: 27M (10VR, 8PS, 9BS)
I applied to:NUIG, RCSI, TCD, UCC, UCD, UL
I have applied to medical schools this many times: three rounds in US. first time applying to Ireland.

Studying now to retake MCAT in May. I have respectable EC's. I've done medical mission trips to Mexico, studied abroad in Spain, shadowed multiple doctors, and should have a publication coming out soon. I've talked to multiple admissions advisors in the states and for the most part they agree that I am what they call "interviewable," but when it comes down to it, I get pushed out of the interview pool, late-season, by people with higher MCAT scores and better GPAs. I really want to go to medical school, and I think my application reflects that I have been working hard to make that dream a reality. I'm interested in hearing if people think I have a good shot at the Irish schools considering the fact that they do accept fewer American students than Canadians. In looking at the posting history, there seems to be many Canadian stats, but not that many Americans are posting-what gives? Come on. Yes we can...post

You have a good application, other than the MCAT. That is the one big thing that will slow you down.

For the 4 year programs they typically want a high MCAT, but the 5 year programs look for a higher gpa. A 3.6 is good, I think a 3.7 is the average in trinity (5yr) though (its probably lower for the other schools). Your gpa is solid in terms of the 4 year programs, but your mcat is several points lower. In realization of this, I wouldnt say your chances of admission are stellar, but they aint bad thanks to your EC's.

The Irish schools are only slightly easier to get into than the American schools (if you live in America). This is why there are not many Americans over there.... Canada is a different story, there are people with amazing stats being denied on a regular basis. Hence the large influx of Canadians into Ireland.

P.S. ROSS and SGU was a shot in the dark, it turn out they said I wasn't accepted or rejected. They both wanted me to do the MCAT again. So that sucks, so they pretty much teased me.
Overall, not sure if I have a shot but it's always worth a shot? Any input would be great.

I was wondering if anyone has either heard back from RCSI interviews as of yet? and if any one knows the acceptance rates AFTER the inteview for RCSI?

I wouldn't expect to hear anything from RCSI for a couple weeks from now. I was chatting with Peter Nealon and he said that we will hear sometime around that time. Also, he said that the statistics for acceptance are around 50% of those invited for an interview get an offer. Hope that helps.

Anybody who is accepted to UCC feel free to send any questions my way, I'm currently in first year so I can give you some insight into how things are working.
