Thank you very much! I did apply in the US and received some interview offers. Attended one interview there, but have been cancelling the others since receiving offers from Ireland. My first choice was always Ireland.

Congrats!! when is the deadline for the deposit?

April 4th and its 4500 euro. They also require you to submit a letter from the bank stating that you can secure funds to cover the costs by that date as well.

So there's only one person who got accepted to Trinity so far? Anyone else heard anything back from Trinity or Galway for their 5-year program?

Okay, so my mom just opened the letter and emailed me - I got accepted to NUI Galway!

I just talked to Tony... Trinity sent out their 1st round offers last week and Galway sent theirs out on Monday. He said not to worry as there are second and possibly third round offers coming up. I asked him when he thinks those would be and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. Congrats to those who got in so far!

how do you know you are waitlisted at TCD?

Opps sorry, I am not waitlisted at TCD, I meant that I'm still waiting to hear from TCD

Out of curiosity, for those with cGPA's that are low to get into Canadian or US med schools, how do you think you can do well in medical school in Ireland? If you do want to go back to Canada/US for residency, you need to do well in your international medical school and do research back in North America, how do you know you can do it? Can anyone share their reason for a low GPA and what keeps them confident that they'd succeed in an Ireland medical school?

For me its just the fact that I hated almost every course of my undergrad... I am very interested in medicine so it would get me going. Also, being away just to study, with the mentality to study will keep me focused. For my undergrad I commuted from home so there were many distractions.

And I've heard from multiple people that once you're in med school everything just clicks and you are much more focused.

In the end, I'm excited to be studying something I actually WANT to study!

And you're GPA isnt that low...

In a lot of cases, low GPA can be attributed to one poor year, semester or even a few courses in a university career. I personally had a really low GPA in my first year (3.0) because I didn't work hard enough and did too many extra-curricular activities. I managed to turn it around and average a 3.9 GPA in my next two years bringing my average over 3 years to 3.6 which is still considered to be low/average by med school standards. However I'm confident that I will be able to do well and succeed in med school because I've been able to achieve a high GPA (3.9) on a consistent basis. Hope this helps.

Basically what Alexander III said. Moving to a large school can be quite the transition, and your GPA can suffer because of that. One bad semester/year doesn't mean that the person can not keep up with the difficulty of the school work. In addition, since we're all extremely interested in medicine, since we're all going through this crazy process, it'll keep us going along with our studies (hopefully anyway).

Pretty much same here. In my best 2.5 years I had a 3.7 and I got a 32 on the MCAT which is slightly higher than the average acceptance score in the US at least. 😎

I had one bad year @ <2.0 x 32 credit hours and ended up with a final cGPA of 2.88. I have been attending an SMP at EVMS for this last year and will likely graduate receiving honors in every course. There are endless reasons why one can suffer a low GPA that do not preclude success in medical school. If only adcoms were more understanding....

Hey what was your percentage average when you applied?

Too many extracurriculars eh? do you mean too much drinking and having fun cause there's plenty of that in Ireland so you better be careful 😛

If you don't mind I was trying to be professional and technically speaking, drinking and having fun fall into the extracurricular category 😛

Anyone get any rejections yet??? Wondering when they'll come out

FedEx tried to deliver the package on Tuesday and Wednesday, but no one was at home. So they called me today. I picked up the package.

Hey what was your percentage average when you applied?

91% or 92%. I also took SAT (2200). I visited UCD lately, and like it better. Not sure if NUIG is a good one or not.

Does anyone know how to start a new thread? Can someone start a thread for those who got accepted into NUIG for 2012? Did anyone near Toronto, Canada get accepted into NUIG? Does anyone know if NUIG is a good medical school?

I got accepted into NUIG (6 yrs) and I live in Toronto. I don't know how good NUIG is.

Hey Ireland2520,

I started a new thread that can be found here.
I'm graduating from uOttawa this year and I have been accepted to the 5-year programme at NUIG. There's very little information on the school because they recently joined ABP but from what I've read, people who go there seem to be very happy with the school and the city, as well.

Put down a deposit for rcsi gep. That means I'm giving up my ucc offer! Hopefully that will mean +1 spots for someone still on the wait list.

Goodluck guys and gals! If anyone from my future class wants to talk, feel free to message me, if not, see you soon in Dublin!

will rejection letters come be mail or email? Also not hearing from Trinity, means an applicant is on the waitlist?

I think they come by snail mail. Not sure about waitlists.

Decided to Accept My offer to RCSI (6 year programme) for 2012, see you guys in Dublin!

From my understanding, if you haven't received a package from Trinity yet, you haven't gotten a 1st round offer, so you'll have to wait when 2nd round offers are given. I emailed Finbar and that's what he told me. I don't know when 2nd round offers will be made, but maybe in May/June. I think each schools fills all their international positions in 1st round and if anyone rejects their offer for whatever reason, spots will open and then they make 2nd round offers. I don't think schools send out rejection letters until after second round offers are made and accepted. Basically when the game is over, they tell you it's over. And rejection letters can be emailed or mailed.

SAT World History: 800

I thought there might be application they straight out reject, regardless if there are spaces left

thats a bummer you have to wait till the very end of the cycle to see if you got rejected. looks like Ill have to make back up plans now. Should I contact the school directly and ask about my chances?

With your stats, I'm surprised none of the five-year programmes scooped you up. You've got a lot of great things in your app, it seems.

With your stats I would take the MCAT and apply to schools in the US. I am sure you would get in somewhere. If you really want to go to Ireland apply again next year with the MCAT. You still could get in at this point for sure.

thats what i was thinking, but i think the problem is that i applied late. my application was complete end of january. *sigh*

What do you mean by your application being completed late? I submitted my application in November, but I didn't get my references or essay submitted until January. If you haven't received an offer by now, you most likely didn't receive a 1st round offer, you'll be considered for second round offers and if you have really good stats, you might be on the top of the waitlist for second round, so don't give up hope, but yes do make a back-up plan. The only problem is whether spots will open up or not for second round. Some schools might give out straight rejection if your stats are terrible, but I heard some people with cGPA's near 2.8 who remained on the waitlist. Also, the schools don't only focus on your stats, I think a big chunk of what determines whether you get in or not is your essay and reference letters and your proof that you have the means to support your education financially. They wouldn't want you to drop out after one year because you can't pay your tuition anymore, because they were relying on your payments for the 4/5/6 yrs you've registered for.

Do you know if they tell you if you are waitlisted?

I applied back in November and still have not heard anything from any of the schools (except a weird email from UCD saying you need an appointment to visit the campus). But from what Im reading its not all bad if I havent heard anything? Im pretty pessimistic at this point but it looks like people who havent heard may still have a shot....am I right?

also are those acceptances to med schools? cuz if that's what you mean you are definately not telling the truth cuz you need at least 2 years uni experience to get into canadian med schools...
