Step 2 CS going Virtual (Telehealth)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wouldnt they have security concerns?I mean students between breaks aren’t allowed to talk, this is a bull**** exam with a high passrate but still for appearances i dont think they will go to administer it at home
I dont know the answer. Taking the test at prometric seems odd considering you would be talking outloud and distrubing the person next to you trying to take the lsat or step or what ever.
Administering it at the 5 sites seems even stupider consideirng you should just go in and do the physical exam. And doesnt help with the pandemic.
Schools dont have real places to administer it, so the more i think about it the more it makes sense to administer it at home.
There is a camera pointer towards you at all times. But I dont know the answer.

the irony would be immeasurable if they made students go to a testing center to deliver a tele-health exam
on the flip-side, the resistance of nbme in allowing medical schools to administer their own CK exams would then look even worse

what is nbme even doing??

This was their chance to end this silly and useless test. But they just can't let go of the money. How shameful and embarrassing, honestly.

I wish medical school and residency people higher up would stand up for students (and the concept of medical education and evaluation) and confront the NBME already.

Apparently, some noted here and elsewhere that people forget about CS and move on after they match, which gives NBME complete power to screw over med students.

I was told today (not yet confirmed) that the test will be administered at a prometric center and we will be doing exams on mannequins. I did not even know that prometric is equipped to give us a room with good internet connection and microphones/speaker system. They will be administered the test on the weekends too to accommodate the volume. It is fascinating the efforts they are putting in to milk this money and even think they can get prometric up to speed despite the facts that prometric themselves are backup with other tests.

Someone mentioned earlier, I wish medical administrators and attendings will stand up for us medical students to end this fantasy and money grabbing from USMLE...as much as we as medical students want to stand up for ourselves, no body care about what we say unfortunately

We just need to find and spam more Carmody and attending anti-CS blog posts and videos on SDN and social media, get the top school guys to like this, and CS will likely be tossed away for good.

We know this is not going to be happening...the trend is no one cares about us...idk about you all but I heard repeatedLy from my school administrators how bull**** this test is...but the impression I got from them is be prepared for it and suck it up.

People thought Step 1 going pass/fail won't happen and look how that turned out. We just need to keep pressuring attendings and med ed guys and state legislators to force the NBME to get rid of that dumb scam for good.

As far as I know, they still make money with step 1 even tho they make it pass/fail. Ending step 2 means they will lose At least millions.

But the key is to get rid of CS requirements for US grads so really the issue lies on all programs and state boards requiring it?

State boards may have their shares from CS.

State boards may have their shares from CS.

And that's a problem (and also corruption). Using CS to screen IMGs/FMGs is what should be done and NBME still gets a lot of money since there's a lot of IMGs/FMGs applying. But requiring US grads to take it is stupid.

Also i have no idea why there's a DO equivalent of CS but that also stinks.

did any of you run into this already? I was thinking of signing it but I had no idea if it was actually legit: endstep2cs.com/
I was told to not use it...not sure why I did not ask...it has something to do with the new format...also you won't get to pick which location you want to take the test at.

Fair enough you make sense

Why can’t they just waive Step 2 CS for the class of 2021 then go back to normal next year? Taking it virtually is pointless!

The answer is clear. This test should not be a requirement to become a license physician...

Amen! This test is pointless virtually and is just a moneymaker. Medical students should get together and file a lawsuit against NBME for ripping us off with usmle step 2 CS!

If all 154 MD schools file a suit against the NBME ...then maybe then this pointless exam can be eliminated. There are countless posts about how stupid this exam truly is and nothing has been done to eliminate it. As soon as medical students take it and pass it...they move on with their life.

We know this is not going to happen.

The only time some people tried to get the nbme to get rid of it, all they did was increase the failure rate.

Funnily enough, it was some students from Harvard. Needless to say, I was shocked. I thought Harvard could do anything
You are talking about million dollars USMLE make lol

Can NBME/FSMB and other organizations stop using medical students and physicians to fill their coffer?

I just ordered my USMLE transcript to be sent to a medical board for licensure application and it costs $70.00. Does it really cost $70 to print a piece of paper, put a stamp on it and mail it? On the other hand, it cost nothing to get my medical school transcript for the same purpose.

Lawsuit based on what? Courts don't get involved in what's required to license doctors.
