Hey there!

Anyone have any experience taking the CS while 6 months pregnant? I was on the emailing list for weeks and weeks and couldn't get it any earlier.

I am worried about the 2 breaks, mostly because I will probably have to pee (though I guess that will help me go faster- LOL!) and I usually grab a granola bar or little snack every 2-3 hours at the hospital- which seems like it's not allowed during the test....

should I just ask if there are any accomodations for pregnancy? it's not really a disability, but you know what I mean. I just want to be able to run to the bathroom if I finish an encounter early or keep a granola bar in my lab coat.

any advice would be appreciated! thank you! 😍

Having had two children while in medical school I would honestly just suck it up. It's just one day.

As a male, I cannot fathom what you have to go through.

But I will comment, I suddenly had an immense urge to urinate shortly after beginning my first encounter!

I will say, the flow of the day and the amount of concentration and engagement makes it so it's rather easy to tune out your detrussor muscle straining against your closed sphincter.

Then again, this is a male speaking.

It goes: 5 cases => Lunch => 4 cases => 15 minute break => 3 cases => Go home ASAP

Wow, your patients and kids must be really happy to be around such an encouraging, understanding person.

Seriously, I'm glad you were one of those people who had no problems during pregnancy - like extremely low blood pressure and hypoglycemic episodes.

Someone needs the ban stick. What an inappropriate response to a very valid concrrn. My wife is currently 38 weeks pregnant so I feel like I can somehwat relate. At 28 weeks she felt her best, so there still might be hope for you. It's going to still suck though. I would co tact the people at charge and se what they can do for you.

If you have medical issues then obviously ask for accommodations. If it's just normal having to pee all the time then I really would just suck it up. I did not mean to sound rude. I know pregnancy can be hard. I guess my short response came across differently then I intended. The NBOME is very good about helping people out since many of our students have families. I'm sure the NBME will too. Best of luck to you and I apologize again. I just don't like it when people say women shouldn't be doctors because we get pregnant and can't do our jobs so I like to prove them wrong.

how about wearing a depends for the day just in case? im not making fun of anyoen or anything, but if youre concern si really that you'll have to pee and cant go, then just wear something that will help? 🙂 with loose pants or a looser/longer shirt and white coat, it shouldnt be noticeable.

I cant believe some of these responses! Come on guys seriously? To OP I would just call the test center and ask them yourself. From what I hear they are very nice as long as u dont flip an attitude with them 🙂

maybe they could have somebody rub your feet while you are taking your histories too. you could always ask.

obviously a joke. but that would be nice, for anybody. seriously, just call. as long as you don't have some hidden notes in your granola bar I'm sure it would be fine.

I guess I don't know how many times a day you're gonna have to pee at 6 months pregnant. Ar2388 had a good suggestion with the depends (I didn't laugh).

But I felt like I was ok when I peed right ahead of time, 3 hours in, and then 2 more hours after that. Just make sure you goooo when you can.

I don't know if you could also take something like maybe an anticholinergic (contraindicated in pregnancy??) to help you last longer?

It is CS....Can you just reschedule till after delivery? You're going to have to balance a little one and residency later on, which will be difficult too. Other than that, they do allow emergency breaks and I usually finished a few minutes early each time. Most places should make accommodations for something like that.

I was about to say the same thing. SDNers can be pretty ruthless sometimes.

For what it's worth, I admire some of you people for being so motivated. If I was a pregnant female (or, as is much more likely, a pregnant female's babydaddy), I'd totally be taking time off. But I always take advantage of every possible excuse/opportunity to be lazy.

Thanks for the responses, guys (and gals). I had written an email to ECFMG, but of course they haven't answered yet. I was hoping to hear that there is something like "emergency breaks" or being able to talk to them on-site (hoping they are human, I mean, and not test-administering robots). It's not like I can cheat, anyway, if I pee between encounters.

I can't reschedule for personal reasons, so :xf: keep your fingers crossed! (I'll keep my legs crossed hahahaha)

I'll be 36 weeks when I take my CS. I'm not worried about having to pee a lot during it, so much as I'm worried about going into labor haha...I wonder if I get a free re-schedule if that happens...knowing those money mongers, no way.

But to the OP, I just took CK 2 days ago and forced myself to stay dehydrated. I only needed to go twice, and I'm 6 months along right now. for what it's worth.
