hey everyone;
just wanted to convey how much of a support this site has been in guiding me throught my step 2 studying. so my exam is on the 21st ( two days left) and i wanted everyone to post how there doing in terms of the way of studying, what books they've been using, exam experince, and score! i know there are a lot of threads similar to this, only this one is exclusively for IMG's.
i have noticed that most ppl posting there scores here get a whopping 99 with only 2-4 weeks of studying. so i wanted to portray the modest side of the step 2 ck general experince for me, and for all IMG's.
so ive been studying for a looooong time for this one, and ive decided to take step 2 first ( i know) only because ive just recently graduated and thought that my knowledge in the clinical area is still fresh. so got the kaplan books, FA, and usmleworld. been studying on and off for like 6 months. but then got serious for the last 3 months. from my personal view, i think FA should be enough, with select topics from kaplan (GIT, ENDO, RHUEMA, PREVENTIVE) other than that FA is gold!! read it 3 times. UW finished 85% of it with an average of 58. sometimes i can get 40's and once got 78. i dont think u should use UW as a gauge to predict ure score, but as a learnign tool. then again i also scanned the forums for avg UW scores vs the real thing posts. READ THE EXPLANATIONS, redid marked Q's, and read the notes ive written from UW. i hope this is enough to get a decent score, although im not expecting a 99, i sure hope i can get crack this exam.
one thing i didnt do was the nbme (paid) test. although everyone has told me to take it. i incist that i shouldnt. maybe i have wrecked nerves and all, but i feel that it will either over boost ure confidence and hence score, or it will smash ure ego, and make u postpone. i just feel now, no matter how much im reading or preparing, theres no more info i can retain. so i hope this strategy works out. ill let u know once ive taken the beast and the scores are out.
ill later post how my experience was in the exam, and later the score. i hope all IMG'S can post what there scores were if theyve already done the exam. IS EVERYONE GETTING 99'S?????:meanie:
P.S: passed CS with only FA and 3 weeks of studying. shouldnt take u more than that if ure english is fine.

UW plus kaplan for me
Started this month(April)
Exams in June or July.
3 hours a week of study

well, i just came back from the exam today.....:xf: gotta say that one long mother f***** i was really worried about timing before i got into the exam, but some blocks i finished with 5 minutes left and some were just barely on time. defintly similar to UW though the stems were longer indeed. lots of peds and psych Q's. and not ure normal 2 order step questions, some were 3 and even 4 step thinking type questions. have to say i didnt breeze through it like i wanted. but overall i think it was ok. when i was on block 5 n 6 i wasnt seeing clearly, but after a break and a red bull, blocks 7 n 8 went smoother, though the Q's were easier, i think they know ure wasted by then so they make it eaiser. i cant say what i think ill score, and i cant remember any of the questions except loads of incontince and bleeding (heam) q's. i dont think im getting a 99. but we'll soon find out. although most people come out not knowing what they did, and do achieve a great score. keeping my fingers crossed:luck:

hi, i got around 3-4 epidimiology Q's and exactly 4 videos! but non were ure normal Bias, or PPV, NPV, specificity or sensistivity Q's. they were tougher.

quick question.... did anyone feel that they did miserably horrible on the exam, and achieved a good score? wishing for some feedback?

haha funny, think outside out of the box russianJOO, there are residents beyond the united states. hence the "IMG thread". and yes i do have contacts.
besides that wasnt the reply for a question im still waiting for. ANYONE???!!!

not too many img's on this forum. mostly US-Med students and they're probably not going to look at this thread cause of the img title.

So you're a resident in another country and are going to leave mid way through your residency? or are you just getting ready now so that once you finish your residency you can not waste anytime and do your residency in the US?

got my scores back. FAILED!!!! 😡🙁. I really cant believe it, ive worked so hard for this exam. read so many books, invested so much time. and the sad part is i wasnt even close. got 65.i feel so lost. should i ask for a remark , i heard thats possible. PLZ ADVISE. was seriosuly considering leaving med school after this. but i managed to get back up. now im taking a falcon review course for step 1. hope it works out.

ohh man sorry to hear that.. from what I hear the remark is a waste of money and no one has gotten their grade changed.

did you do USMLE World questions? what was your average on them? did you take any NBME practice exams? how did you do on them? just reading and knowing the material is useless withouth doing at least a thousand practice questions.

sorry to hear that you failed EgyDoc! The key for you here is being reflective. Try to work out what exactly found you out on the test i.e. minutiae? whole concepts? or like RussianJoo mentioned question familiarity? This is so important, not just for this test but for anything, or else you'll just make the same mistake over and over no matter how many books you read or review courses you do. Best of luck!

OK! as i stated on my first post, at the top of the page, i took UW twice with an avrage of 58-62. and getting some 70's by the couple of days. did kaplan Q-bank 40% done was avging in the 60+. did kaplan books once, first aid not less than 6 times. annotated ofcourrse from UW. with a side book of which i thought were HY stuff that werent written in review books. the only one thing i didnt take was the NBME!!! so i guess there it is, for everyone who wants to take this monster, take a TEST-MONSTER before hand. i dunno i hated the nbme alwasy made me too afraid which would make me delay or maybe too confident for the exam.
In the end i think i just got delt a bad set of questions from the main BANK. it happens, **** happens. PEACE.

I can only empathize with your frustration, if you felt hard done by maybe a second shot using your same methods is plausible. I was merely pointing out that at this stage of education there is only one thing that would make you fail something i.e. you revised the wrong stuff / wrong way.

Reading the FA 6 times ,doing the UW and redoing some of the UW questions ,I think it's more than enough ,but where's the problem as I think that skipping NBME test simulation will not make a failure !!!!!!!!!

hi manasi,
I being a fellow IMG also am in a similar situation.
I have scheduled for the aug-spt-oct slot with testing region as India.
I would be attending the University of Texas school of public health at Houston this fall and would like to change my region to the US.
Please guide me as to what procedure is to be followed exactly.
Actually I had called up ECFMG prior to scheduling Step 2 CK regarding the same. They advised me to send in a fax after I receive my Scheduling permit.
It is today that I have received the email confirming the acceptance of my application and that my scheduling permit will be available within a week.
As I may guess you too have gone through a similar procedure.
Please guide me regarding this and keep updating about your status,
Thanks again,
dan
