I know this thread has been done, but three days after sending my withdrawal, I recieved my rejection letter from BU. I appreciate their effort to go "all the way" in consoling me, however, after reading this, I'm left thinking, "huh?":

Dear Supa,

The Committee on Admissions of Boston University has completed it's review of your application. It is with great regret that I inform you that we will be unable to offer you an interview. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away.

Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend medical school and are likely to make important contributions to our profession and to society. Sadly, with approximately 60 applicants for every seat in the class, we are forced to deny many exceptional people.

We acknowledge and respect your accomplishments, and recognize that our inability to offer you an opportunity to complete the admissions process is a loss for Boston University. Please accept our best wishes for all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg,M.D.

  This is such a funny letter I wonder what they were thinking when they wrote it. I especially like how they take the heat and make it sound like their loss....Priceless

I got my BU rejection a full week after I sent them my $100. I paid $100 for that rejection letter.

Maybe if it really is "their loss", like the letter implies, you can make the case that they should be the ones losing $100?

It must have felt funny typing a rejection letter on the computer, especially that one, by the looks of it.

I like the part where it says "you, the candidate that is turned away"😡

I'm sorry to poke fun, but I just find the letter funny, not your situation. I have had my share of rejection letters, but none as crafty as this.

Again I will say I am VERY impressed with the letters that BU sends. They have got to have the best letter writers EVER.

that's not a rejection letter--especially if you withdrew!!! it's saying "we're sorry you can't complete the admissions process, but thank you for making our choices easier"

I paid a 100 bucks for my rejection letter- it had better be poetry!

It most certainly is a rejection letter. I got a similar copy back in November and I hadn't withdrawn.

So, for anyone who got accepted; were they as weird in their acceptance?

I haven't been accepted, but interviewed and defered until the March decision. The letter was pretty similar, kind and flattering. Some think it is cheesy but I believe it shows class. I think they generally do appreciate the people who apply there, partially because of their stance on "letters of intent". Dean Witsburg came right out and said at the interview that we should not rush out to write one of those letters. Rather we should continue to weigh our options and if we end up getting waitlisted, and BU is the ultimate choice, then write one. I think that is sincere, since he knows the majority of applicants who write those letters are mostly full of crap.

I'll take a flattering letter anyday over some of the, "we have 1,000,000 applicants, and you suck, so leave us alone" letters I have gotten from a couple of schools. It does help cusion the blow.

What a lovely form letter we all got!

You know, they could tell me I'm the most amazing and beautiful person they've ever rejected and sign it blood....

I still want my money back.

I know it would be pointless, but I really want to contact these schools that reject so many people and ask them why they charge so much money? It just seems so crooked and awful. Why should I have paid $2000 to not get into medical school. It's completely ridiculous. I am sorry to rant, after all I did get in somewhere, and that's priceless....I just hate it when bureaucracy (sp?) makes things so difficult and expensive for everyone. 🙁

Judge for yourself -

"Dear Mr. Averageman,

<Standard stuff on the conditions of the acceptance like not failing classes and graduating. Something about an open house in may. Standard blah blah.>

It is my privilege, on behalf of the faculty and students of Boston University School of Medicine, to welcome you to our school. Please accept my personal congratulations and best wishes as you begin the grand adventure of a career in medicine.

Signed,
Robert A. Witzburg, M.D."

He actually signed it too, or at least someone did (it is a huge scribble 😛 )

I like that last line about the "grand adventure of a carreer in medicine". Makes it sound like we're off to fight the orcs in Mordor 🙂
