Succesful Applicants and Personal Statements

I would like to add a paragraph to the PS.

please let me in to vet school. i love animals you see and nobody loves animals as much as i do. in fact i had a childhood dog that died and it changed my life forever. my family vet says i would be a good vet. my mom says i would be a good vet. i watch a lot of animal planet and emergency vets is my favorite show. i love when they save puppies! so my goal is to save puppies.
.
biology is my favorite class too. so i obviously love science, even though we have to take a lot of it! plants are boring though. i mean who cares about photosynthesis, lets get to saving puppies!!

Please ignore my C average in science classes, they are filled with pre-med students who think studying is more important than watching Grey's Anatomy marathons.

I have lots of experience with animals. I used to walk my dog when I got home from school if I didn't watch TV or play video games. I also had a hamster but he died quickly (I don't know why).

what?!! thats exactly what I've written so far on my personal statement. darn, now I'm going to have to change it and make it more unique.

Although I do have a section of it that you two didn't include, it kinda goes something like this:

I really have to admit, I do hate working with people though. Like, those clients for example. they are just really so obnoxious. Being a vetrinareean is all about being HONEST so I have to be honest about this with you. like, these people with pets are just so STUPID! they dont even know what they are doing. sometimes I just want to smack them. they dont even deserve to have a dog.

I also have a lot of experience with different kinds of animals too, because i am a hoarder so I have snakes, gerbils, dogs, cats, llamas, iguanas, parakeets...you get the point!

...and if I don't get in this application cycle I will continue applying while I earn my dog grooming license online....

...for real though, we had a gal walk in the other day asking for about a job opening because she needed some hands on experience before she finished her online dog grooming course. :bang:

The idea of creating a personal statement line-by-line reminded me of the book "Hearts, Keys, and Puppetry" by Niel Gaiman and the Twitterverse. Neil Gaiman, one of my favorate authors, started a twitter thread, and allows tweeters to write the rest of the book. It was then edited, and released as an audiobook by the BBC. Here is a link to the book (it is free 🙂): http://www.bbcaudiobooksamerica.com...47/bbcawdioThe-Twitter-Audiobook-is-Here.aspx

🤣

And if I do get accepted to vet school, I will make sure to buy and download the veterinary anatomy flashcards app onto my new droid phone. I know these will be a great learning tool for me. They will be even better once pictures are included!

I know that my personal statement is now exceeding the character limit, but everyone knows that a great veterinarian can't be constrained by conventional limitations and boundaries. After all, I'm a free spirit. Like burning my leather... it shows I have hobbies and a life outside of veterinary medicine! But I also take my role in PETA very seriously. A couple years ago I saw an image of a monkey with lipstick and eyeshadow on, and it truly changed me. If "scientists" won't stop at mascara, who knows what they are doing to those poor animals! That is why I don't believe in vaccinations either. But don't worry, I am a strong believer in herbal tea and love. Love can cure anything. And I promise, as a veterinarian, to love animals with all of my heart.

this is now hanging on my wall.

In rank order (where 1 = most important, 2 = next most important, etc.) list the five non-technical (cognitive and emotional intelligence) skills you believe to be most important for achieving overall success in the veterinary profession. Of the five skills you listed, which skill is currently your greatest strength? Please provide a brief description of how you have successfully applied this skill in your personal or professional life. Perfect. Thanks! Now if you don't mind I'm going to just copy and paste. 😉

ahahahahahahahaha I LOVE this post!

But to be fair ... I'll admit I'm a James Herriot fan and I do own all the books 😳 😛

And while I dont particularly enjoy calving (who likes a cow trying to break your arm against her pelvis?) I do really enjoy lambing and kidding.

As do I. Have his biography too, which is quite interesting. But it wasn't mentioned in my PS lol.

No one is going to show you their letters. Not because they are too personal or don't apply to you, because honestly, we all have something to say that would be universal to an applicant group (ie: I love animals! I have wanted this my whole life!) but that would be too easy now wouldn't it? It's kind of like a rite of passage.... we had to do it and somehow found a way, you can do it too. You'll think of something.

I am writing my personal statement but it has to be 560 characters including spaces, I feel like I have so much to say and its really hard to fit it in a small paragraph?😕

What school is this PS for?

That would just take a lot of good editing and clear communication skills!

This thread has a deceptively boring title that gives no indication whatsoever of the treasure trove within... this is now one of my favorite threads on this forum! 😀

i'm having a similar issue! i'm applying to ross, which is a completely separate app from VMCAS. so i'm trying to condense the roughly 800 word PS from VMCAS down to the 300 words required by ross. 🙁
