my first interview is on Nov 9th and then I start heavy after that.

I've still not bought a suit!! I went shopping yesterday and today -- with no luck. Are most of you going with classic black? wool vs synthetic? how about stripes? also, what is appropriate for the evening before gatherings..

any tips?

😎

I have only done 2 interviews so far. I asked what the dress was for the event/dinner the night before. Both were very casual; jeans and nice shirt or sweater. I have worn a dark olive suit, but I have seen black, grey w/stirps, no wool yet. Still a bit warm for that in a few places. Hope this helps.

can i ask what kinds of questions they asked u?
:scared:

I recently bought a wool suit which was a bit more expensive than the typical polyester that they seem to be selling more these days. I do prefer wool though.

Just went on my first interview. I am a guy so I wore khaki slacks and a button up dress shirt to the night before dinner. The female interviewees wore a range of outfits, from black slacks with nice shirts to jeans with sweaters. Most residents showed up in jeans and sweaters or polos. To the interview I went with the traditional charcoal suit...most of my fellow interviewees did the same with the traditional black pant-suit.

I'm interviewing in psych, I know I have my nerve posting on this forum, but I'm the surrogate obgyn ok? Anyway, I'm wearing the traditional black sacks, with a nice shirt/sweater and a conservative black suit - but I have baby fat I'm toting around that I need to cover up so black is slimming 😉 To you ladies out there with the nice bods - I say flaunt it baby! Just in a nice neat professional way ofcourse 😳

I'm a big fan of Ann Taylor and, as usual, she served me well again in the suit department. I got a dark grey suit (houndstooth???) for full price and 3 weeks later when it was on sale fo 40% off they refunded the cash because the tags were still on (they're so nice). Suit #2 is a black/off white tweed skirt suit, feminine with a 40's flair to it. I wouldn't call it "traditional", but it suits me and I think that is what is most important.

I second that. I found a great deal at Ann Taylor Loft - everything was about 40% off, so I got the jacket, pants, and skirt for under $200. It is black with tiny blue polka dots all over it - not too obnoxious, but a little different. Only one interview so far, but there was definitely a wide variety of things, from plain black to the multicolored tweed.

So I finally got a suit today too!! (good thing since my first interview is on Wed!!) It's black -- but a bit different with the cut & collar & buttons. I was worried it was too different -- but I really really like it & was comofortable in the store. i would describe it as classy but not classic .. I'll see when I try it on later at home.

all my friends in other fields (medicine, derm, rads, ) keep telling me "boring /traditional" is good. but i think in obgyn most of u ppl are willing to be different enough that i wont be breaking any sacred law by not being totally boring myself either. 🙂

my only regret: not shopping earlier to get some of these great deals you guys are talking about! but oh well.

good luck everyone!

Go for it... I went to an interview were the program coordinator chastised all the interviewees for looking like a "sea of black." I at least wore a blue shirt and red tie to spice up my outfit... 😉
