I talked to my pre health advisor and she said dental schools do not like to see too many summer courses. Is that just for prerequisites or in general?

I don't see why not..? I took a full load for the summers between Fresh & Soph and Soph & Jr. Taking the classes allowed me to graduate earlier but then I decided instead to add two minors so that I wouldn't have been out of school for so long before starting dental school.

Every prehealth advisor I have ever been to has told me nonsense. I feel like Im more qualified than half these prehealth advisors these days.

They dont want to see pre-reqs over the summer because they may be "easier" or they worry you aren't as familiar with the material as you would be if you took a semester long course.

I took anatomy over the summer and got in.

It is true that over the summer 1) you don't necessarily need to juggle extracurriculars, 2) the compressed term means you may not digest or retain the material as well, and 3) some courses may be made a bit easier to accommodate the faster pace. It is okay to take some summer courses, but they don't want to see too many prereqs taken over summer terms. Also they do want to see you doing productive activities (that is more than just taking classes) with your summers.

Took physics and English over two summers and no one mentioned it. You're gonna be ok

Your “health advisor” has caught the myth bug.
