I was interviewed a couple of days ago. Today I checked my status, I got "Waiting List/Lettered". Has anyone been accepted from the waiting list?

Turn-around time is that quick? I'm gonna interview next week, I hope I find out that soon too.

To answer your question though, I think I remember reading that the waitlist moves a lot and that they wind up accepting like twice or 3 times the class size. Good luck

Yeah, it is really fast. I found out the status two days after the interview. I have heard about the three groups on the waiting list. I called the admission office, the secretary said she couldn't tell me which group I belong on the list.

Hmm, that's weird. I heard that they'll tell you which 1/3 you're in. Call Mr. Rosso

Yeah, that was what I heard. I will try to call Mr. Rosso. But I am afraid that the secretary is going to pick up the phone again. Anyway, good luck on your interview. 👍

i got the waiting list notification on the web site less than 48 hours after my interviews. fast is right.

i called and Mr. Rosso is on vacation till the 27 of february. they are very friendly at the office and someone will let you know where you are on the list. There is a problem with this. The list will move and change alot from now till the end of the interviewing cycle in April. So, where you are today may not be close to where you are in a couple of months. If anyone else gets a waitlist position, can u let us know where you are on the list, they will tell you Top/middle/bottom of the top/middle/bottom third of the list. I was told the bottom of the top third. I have seen a few other posts and that is the only position i see posted. Could that be the safe answer for them? I doubt it, but I'd like to know where others stand, while i cook in pergatory.

Mr. Rosso told me the same thing, Bottom Third.

hey guys...i am waitlisted too...anyone know how this is going to work....i was told i am in the bottom third....and do they reject anyone post interview....? or just waitlist everyone...?

This is an incorrect statement. I heard they reject 20-30% post interview.

This is an incorrect statement according to both someone who goes there now (Kazema) and to the admissions office.... No one is rejected. Pretty much everyone is put on "hold" and then accepted or WL.

I bet if you start a thread asking, no one will say they have been rejected by UB.

so basically if i dont move up..i have no shot?!?!? 🙁

From reading other threads, it seems like everyone who was accepted got the "current status: accepted/lettered" message on their online status, and everyone who was waitlisted got the "current status: waitlisted/lettered" message. My current status only says "decision rendered" and I'm pretty sure that's a rejection. I think I remember someone else saying they got that message and then received a rejection in the mail. So I think they do reject post-interview.

They do in fact reject post-interview, as one of my very best friends (and someone who was interviewed and accepted at better schools) was rejected immediately post-interview without a stop on the waitlist. Maybe it's not 20%, but that is what the admissions office seemed to indicate when I asked....

I dont understand how thats possible and I got an answer where they said almost everyone is placed on the hold list. I asked if they reject post interview and they said it was very rare. Not to mention the fact that I had the worst interview ever there and did not get rejected. I cant imagine what people said to get rejected. I mean I would have rejected myself if I was the interviewer there.... I totally let my guard down with the student interviewer. It was my first of the year...oh well... I am currently WL

The funny thing is, I actually thought my interviews went pretty well. both were with faculty members and they both seemed like they liked me. Who knows

UB has a really bad reputation for waitlisting local applicants, knowing that they'll come at the drop of a hat. They interview until the end of March, so the waitlist won't start moving until then. I know of people who didn't get moved off the waitlist until July, but UB usually does go through a decent portion of it. They have been known to waitlist really qualified people for no apparent reason, too. I had 2 faculty members when I interviewed, too. I feel like I do know someone who applied that was rejected outright, but everyone who pops ito my head either hasn't heard, is waitlisted, or was accepted. I go to college in Buffalo so a lot of people from my school did apply. I'll ask around.

First, people do get rejected outright. I am certain of this.
My experience is a decision (waitlist, rejection, acceptance) is posted within 48 hours of your interview.

They interview 'till the end of April. April 19th. Then the list is finalized.

They will provide you a rank if you are waitlisted. Call, Buffalo is the most transparent admissions office I have encountered. You are given a number by the committee as soon as your interview is done. Your position is based on this number. It does not change once your interview is done. Your position can change.

According to past threads, and the admissions office. The waitlist moves alot. But, they are not allowed to tell you how many are on the waitlist.

As of yesterday morning, there were approximately 25 students spots left to be filled this year.

Most of the above information comes from the admissions office.

Good luck.

That's not entirely true... decisions are only posted within 48 hours if your interview happened to land on a day that was 48 hours before they posted their next batch of decisions. I think they do that every few weeks, but yes, it does seem to be very quick turnaround for some people on the later end of that period.

As for what people said to get rejected - I really don't know! As I said this is one of my good friends, a very smart, articulate, and compassionate person who thought the interviews went very well! I was accepted outright and I wasn't really sure what my interviewers thought about me, because one of them was tough....

Anyway, good luck all!

Are you planning on accepting UB, or are you waiting to hear from other schools? I know of at least one person who is planing on declining the moment she heard from any FL schools (good news for any of you waitlisters!)

Did anyone apply MD/PhD to UB? I met someone on that committee tonight, and she says they haven't finalized decisions yet.

I'll join the club. I interviewed a couple of days ago and just checked my online status. Darn.

It turns out I was right (see my above posts). I interveiwed on march 1st and on 9am march 3rd, my decision was posted: "Decision Rendered" I just got the rejection letter in the mail yesterday. And I thought my interviews went well. I'm thinking it might be because i had already been accepted to another SUNY school that I had sent a letter of intent to. Do you think UB saw I was accepted there and contacted the school and was told I definitiely intended to attend, so they just figured why waste a spot if this guy isn't going to come here?

Highly unlikely...... they cant even see that for a few more days where you have been accepted. And I highly doubt they would call asking if you wrote the other school a LOI

I just got an acceptance within 36hrs!

goodluck everyone!

First and foremost: Relax and be yourself!!!! really!
I know Buffalo gets a bad rap for having "unorthodox questions" but they are just really trying to get you to think about different/unique situations in your life and seeing how you as a person handles them

second:
They realize that there are kids who are holding 20 acceptances and will most likely end up at Harvard,etc....so they don't want to give them an acceptance outright because they know they will never attend Buffalo.
However, if you get waitlisted, I heard that the waitlist moves like crazy ~usually may 15th, when those people w/20 acceptances have to drop down to 1

hope that helps!

I do think I'm going to go there. I'm waiting on two other schools, but one of them I'm almost positive I'm not going to get into (Yale... haha... why did they even interview me!?) and the other I'm not sure I like better than UB (RWJ... better school rankings wise but I liked Buffalo a lot more). Soooo yeah.

After your interview what did the status page say.....
"decision rendered" or "accepted"
My page says decision rendered and I an afraid that it could be a rejection.. 😱

i am sorry but that usually means rejection.

Acceptance = "accepted"
Rejected = "decision rendered"
Waitlist = "waitlist/lettered"

From what I have observed....

I heard decision rendered" means rejection....sorry 🙁

It would say "waitlist/lettered" if waitlisted

sorry...best of luck

I just got my status too - WL. 🙁
After emailing Mr. Rosso I found out I was in the lower third, like the other two people here. 🙁 🙁 Did anyone hear that they are in the upper or middle third of the WL?

I am also lower third but that was in September when I first interviewed...I wonder if I went up since then? I will email to check that out because I think they interview people with the highest initial app score first. So even though I had a no so good interview its conceviable that as more people interviewed I moved up? I hope so....

I was also waitlisted and told that I was in the bottom third. It's a shame because I am originally from Buffalo and was hoping to move back.

I had possibly the worst two interviews imaginable, it was just a bad day for me, and it was with Dr.Severyn and another facualty member.

Im pretty sure the only reason I even made it to the waitlist is because I specifically told them I wanted to go to UB and I have a pretty good app (good LOR's and such).

Oh well, good luck to all.

Nope didnt move up.... 👎

Upper third here, but that was a few weeks ago. Mr. Rosso said the final rankings would be out after April 19th or so. I think that's when you can also get an idea of where in each third you are.

That sucks man, but at least there is time before the waitlisted is finalized.

Any good word from other schools?

NYMC = WL
U cinci = WL
UNC = no word even though interviewed in Nov. :laugh:
UB = WL

So good at waitlists.....I do not blame Ub for my WL, my interview was far from stellar, surprised I wasnt rejected. Cinci on there other hand is a different matter 😡

Saw ur into downstate, stonybrook, and UB...must feel great to have options. Good luck in ur choice Gluon 👍

I am actually waitlisted at Stony. And Downstate is too urban for me. So it is looking like UB right now.

You probably know this already, but I think last year the top two thirds on the UB waitlist got in. Good luck!

Hey guys, my boyfriend Styphon also just found out he is WL at Buffalo and is bottom one third. Don't take this the wrong way but it's comforting to know that a lot of you guys are bottom one third too.

He was really dejected over it, I really hope they don't just chop the bottom one third in April....

We live in Buffalo so maybe it's true that they waitlist people from Buffalo.

He's still waiting to hear back from Upstate post interview and the rest he either hasn't heard from (rejections) or was rejected from.

His stats were 3.61 GPA , 31 MCAT and graduated from Cornell (I'll have you know I jsut typoed that as "Cornbell") , works in an AIDS research lab and was an EMT for 3 years as well as the standard pre med clubs and hosp volunteering.

Do you guys have similar stats? I'm just really curious! This is so frustrating.

I really want him to get in at UB most but at this point we jsut want an acceptance. I goto PA school in Buffalo so... that'd be ideal.

Good luck everyone and lets keep this thread a going.

Hey, I got similar stats (slightly lower GPA, slightly higher MCAT). Did he interview late in the season? Maybe that is why he got WL instead of accepted. I interviewed way back in August.

If he really wants to go there, maybe a he should write a letter of intent to Dean Severin. He is the only man who can cherry-pick people off the waitlist.

Yeah he intereviewed about 2 weeks ago. I didn't know LOI's were helpful at UB. Hmmm. Thanks for the input.

I doubt they discriminate against Buffalo residents. They have a defined points system on how they rank applicants and I can't fathom one of the factors is the applicant's distance from the school, as long as they're NYS residents.

Come to think of it, they way their point system works, they give an extra point to residents of western NY state. So if anything, being from Buffalo will help you.
