Hi there - don't know if I'll be going to Buffalo, but just wanted to mention that financial aid packages are on their way! Mine arrived today. Loans, loans, loans.... 👎

Anyone else get theirs?

Looks like its going to be a three way tie between Buffalo, Stony, and Downstate for me. I am thinking most likely Buffalo. I did like the school a lot, just don't know if I want to deal with all the snow for 4 years.

Hey everyone!
Just made my decision today to go to Buffalo and am soooo excited. Are you all going to the second look weekend?
Seeya!

Hi guys, I just moved and I can't find my scholarship letter. I'm trying to finish my app, and I'm wondering if anyone can post the info from the letter. I know we were supposed to write an essay saying why we think we should get the scholarship, but I was wondering if there were any other important points. Like, where to send the application, what to enclose if you're applying for needbased (tax forms)..Any specifics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey - I don't have the scholarship letter either, sorry! Hopefully someone else knows?

Just bumping this to get an idea of who's coming to second look weekend! Can't wait to see you all there!

April 29th correct?
we all gotta go out that night
I got a place, PM for details

I just found this thread...go me...

I actually got a nice e-mail from Mr. Russo yesterday asking me if I was coming because they didn't have my deposit yet. I just mailed it monday.

Anyone else check their mailbox daily for scholarship info? I had my appliaction in 2 or 3 weeks ago.

See you all at Second Look (and later that night) 😉

Hey Everyone -

Accepted, but still trying to decide 100% where I want to go. I attend UB for undergrad, so I know a decent amount about the school. Any questions bout the area, feel free to ask 🙂

Are you a commuter or a resident? I'm still debating whether or not I want to move out because my parents live pretty darn close to south campus...

Resident... live in the South Lake Apartments on North right now, but if I end up staying here, I'm going to rent a house in Amherst (hopefully the williamsville area, but we'll see whats available).

If your parents are close to south and you get along with the family, I'd say live with them for at least the first semester. Having home cooked meals and a family to lean on definitely would lessen some of your stress 😀

I love South Lake. I have some friends at UB who live there. Staying at home does not mean coming home to meals in my house, but it does usually guarantee there being a box of cereal or frozen food when need be! At the same time, I feel like Living with my parents is slightly embarassing. I also have to decide whether or not to get a new car now or see how long it takes for mine to die because I can't really afford a car and housing...

Good luck with your decision!

Hi fellas, for the moment, it seems I'll be attending UB in the fall.

Lake (i first typed "swine" but that looked bad 😀 ), who cares about embarrassing, save some money and live with your parents.

I prob won't be attending the 2nd look. Just way too much $ to shlep up from the city. Have fun y'all.

I'm always intrigued by the number of people who end up in Buffalo from the city ...more so in undergrad, I think, but nonetheless, for people like me who are dying to move to the city for a few years (residency, perhaps), it's funny.

I don't blame you for not wanting to make the trek. My last venture to the city invovled driving to Poughkeepsie, taking the commuter train from there, and staying in my friend's basement in Brooklyn because I needed to get away for a few days and didn't have the money for a plane or a hotel 😛

See you in August 🙂

Lol ... Still dont know how I ended up in Buffalo from downstate (long island to be exact... you can hold it against me the rest of my life if you'd like 🙄 ).

Oh, and I'm still considering 2nd look (even though I goto UB already, I figure it would be a good way to meet a bunch of potential classmates..)

I'm in Buffalo, too, and I signed up for second look. I want to get a better idea about what I can and can't afford next year (by talking to students, fin aid, etc) and, more importantly, meet potential future classmates. So...you should come 🙂

PS -- Does anyone who is going to Second Look Day want to exchange Facebook or MySpace links so we know who to look for?

well, 2nd look day is like 5 days away...can't wait!
going out that night downtown (saturday) to chippewa
let me know if y'all are thinking about going out & we can meet up
see everyone saturday bright and early (8am is gonna suck)

I def want to go out Saturday night - my flight is not till Sunday 🙂 BigRock, let me know if you want to exchange info so I can make sure to meet up with you!!

I'm planing on going to the Happy Hour Friday night. Saturday I'm still not entirely sure what I'll be up to at night. I might be down in the theatre district and able to meet up with you guys at some point. We can discuss further on Sat! See you guys soon!

Everyone else's inbox being flooded with the list serv?

Sadly I am just going to be coming in (very) late night friday, and leaving again on saturday, so I will not be able to come out and play, but I am still looking forward to meeting everyone!

Good call...I don't think the people who aren't signed up for second look got the email! See you kids there 🙂

Nope, we didn't!

I should be there, along with a bunch of other people headed to UB med next year 😀

What is the attire for this shin-dig? I'm going to be coming from an awards ceremony so I'll probably be in a skirt...I think I might be a little overdressed!

I don't think there's a dress code, people will probably look somewhat nice because it is after all a mixer.

I messed up by the way, it's a PT/Pharm/Med mixer, no dents apparently.

Hehe... I just moved to long island myself so there's one less person to hold it agains you 🙂 .

Any reason you decided to stay in Buffalo? I'm still freaking a little about the weather and the fact that it's 8 hours away from home..

If people are nicely dressed it is going to be hilarious, because Slick's is definitely a T-shirt and jeans type bar, and I doubt that they managed to get the bar to kick out the regulars for those 2 hours. You never know though.

BTW if anyone reads this before going, I am going to UB next fall and I will be the one looking underdressed if it is indeed a somewhat formal affair. :hardy:

just another reason to go 2 UB

I know it is going to sound crazy, but I have been at Buffalo for almost a year, and I thought that the snow would be horrible, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. This year we didnt get that much snow. When it snowed on consecutive days, it was less than an inch!!

Well now that most people got to go to the second look, I was wondering what students thought of the school?

Ok...it's the begining of May...I want to know about scholarships!

I wonder how many people ended up submitting applications after Dr. Sevrin announced at Second Look that only 3 people had applied (I was one of those three) 😎

There's something in the works right now as far as scholarship money, I don't know if that's what they mentioned at the Second Look. Until now they only gave scholarships based on need, but they're going to start giving merit scholarships now too.

http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/bp/2006_Winter/2006Winter_ClassNote.pdf

Maybe these are the scholarships you're talking about and I'm telling you something you already know. If so good luck 🙂.

I sent in mine. Although, if it is only need-based, i'm cooked. My parents make a boatload while refusing to give me a penny, of course.

It actually snows more in the northern suburbs of Syracuse than it does in Buffalo.
I was an attending at Buff General until recently.

I was one of the 3 people who applied too....I like our chances...but it's may 15th...I thought we would've known about it already

well, I think this week they will have it done (hopefully)

Hey all, just got into Buffalo today. I'm still waiting on 3 other schools, but I'm leaning heavily towards attending UB.

I'm also a U Rochester grad so coming back to western NY won't be too bad of a transition for me; I actually felt a pang of nostalgia driving up to Buffalo for my January interview.

Looking forward to seeing you all in August.

So excited to meet my fellow students at SUNY BUFFALO!!!! Anyone know anything about an orientation??? Sooo excited!!!! Dream come true!!! 😍 😍 😍

I think class starts on Aug. 7th
so orientation/white coat ceremony is probably sometime before that I think

or the orientation starts on the 7th, then class a few days later.

either way..it's like 8weeks away & pumped about it!

White coat ceremony is Aug. 11...it was in the Second Look day folder...

The next 2 months are going to be amazing, but reality is going to hit hard and fast!

It sounds like most people in this forum are pretty convinced that they are going to attend Buffalo for med school. I have been accepted to both Buffalo and Downstate and am up in the air with respect to which school to go to. Both schools have comparable board scores and residency matching, and both gave me that "feeling" of belonging.
I was hoping that someone here could give me some of the reasons they are going to attend buffalo aside from proximity to home. What convinced you that Buffalo was the right school for you? Maybe some pros and cons of each school if you are familiar with Downstate.
Hope to get some responses, show your Buffalo pride! Thanks.

I'm really hoping to get into Buffalo. I'm from Brooklyn, but got my MS from SUNY Buffalo this year. I think it's a terrific school. I cannot believe how much the administration takes care of their students, and treats them truly as future colleagues. Of course, I'm a bit biased since I'm dating a medical student.....

Hey this is off topic, but does anyone know if students can have apple computers and run os x, in other words does their software require windows? thanks a lot.

One of my friends who just finished first year of dental school at UB has a Mac...not to mention that I'm doing a research project in Biomedical Research and if you walk down the hall, half of the faculy offices have Macs. I wouldn't worry about it 🙂

awesome. Thanks!

Us '09-ers have got a hard-core Mac contingent going. Everything works, compatibility's not a problem. The computing services have a program called Citrix that lets you run their software remotely through a client - there is a Mac version of Citrix so you can access all that software with your Mac, no problem. There's really not all that much software you need anyway, just the ability to go on the internet for the most part.

Plus you get to join our club. Our awesome Mac geek club. I know you just can't wait.

That goes for all of you. Buy Macs. Now.

Lol..that made me laugh a lil bit. Prepare my membership card, looks like i'm joining. Been a hardcore anti-mac PC user for oh...10 years now, but I'm finally giving in. New macbooks are the way to go 😎

Hey guys,
How is everybody doing?
I was accepted to the UB last Thursday. I have a question regarding the financial aid. When did you receive a letter from the financial aid office? What kind of information does it have? Do we have to apply for loans in an outside organization, like T.H.E. or BoA?

Thanks

Mikhail

Hi everyone, I just got accepted to UB Medical school. I am very excited. 😍 I don't remember on the interview day if Mr. Rosso has mentioned it, but does anyone know if UB has Gym?

Gym...as in an athletic facility or something that I am not aware of?
