I have been complete at suny downstate since beginning of Oct. It has been 2 months and I didn't hear anything back. I called today, and the polite woman checked my application and said "you will hear something soon." I asked whether she meant I will get a mail soon (in my mind thinking-rejection or hold), but she said "I'm sorry, I cannot give you that information." Well, does Suny Downstate email rejections?? Anyone else had similar situation?😕

it sounds to me like just a general comment that they make to anyone who calls inquiring. they're not too on the ball at that admissions office, and frequently they're downright rude.

I don’t think they are rude, but probably were busy/overworked. After my interview, I stayed in the admissions office while I was waiting for a taxi pick up. I was amazed about the large number of ppl that called to find out about the status of their applications/interviews (I finally realized how annoying I probably am when I call these offices). I think that office serves as the contact point for not only the medical school, but also nursing and MPH. If they sounded rude, its probably because they were busy/overworked. There are only a few ppl trying to do alot of stuff.

As for my experiences at the school, I interviewed there recently and the admissions office went out of their way to assist me with getting transportation, my luggage, as well as helping me get to my interview on time(I flew in and got there late due to flight delays.

In regards to the OP original question, are you referring to notice for interviews or acceptances? As for interviews, I sent in my secondary in late September, and got an interview offer in 2-3 weeks(mid Oct) for late Nov. As for acceptances, I was informed that they would notify you in 6-8 weeks about acceptance/rejection.

if you haven't heard anything in a while, I have a feeling its a good thing. I was rejected from downstate literally 4 business days after my application was complete. they mail rejections, so it seemed a little longer, but if they wanted to reject you, they would have done it already

I dont think that means that they didnt look at it because they are still interviewing till March. When did you submit? If anything, because you and I both found out about our status fairly soon after submitting secondaries(compared to the majority of the schools that I applied to which still havent gotten back to me- going on 2.5 months now), I think they grant interviews based on a GPA/MCAT cutoff or examine secondaries very quick.

I'm surprised they told you your status. When I call, they spit fire and tell me not to call again. I guess you'll find your answer soon enough though. Good luck!

I second that. I, too, was in the admissions office waiting for the taxi. The taxi didn't come on time and the lady in the office kept calling to make sure I didn't miss my flight. There were tons of phone calls during that short wait and a handful of nursing students stopped by to ask all sorts of questions that can easily be found on the school's website.

I think SUNY Downstate admissions staff is the most responsive and polite.

I got a letter a month or two ago saying that they'll re-review me in the spring, but there's been no word since...Should I worry? Be patient? Be hopeful?

Has anyone heard anything recently? My interview was almost 3 months ago and I haven't heard back yet.

Time to pack the bags and go home.

I've been waiting to hear back too. I interviewed Feb. 13th. I emailed them last week and they told me a decision had been send to my attention but that it could take anywhere from 5-10 days to recieve it. I'm getting pretty anxious to hear back from them. I am tempted to call them but I should wait until the 10 days is up. Good luck to everyone that is waiting :luck:.

Starry, did your status page/checklist change? I think I'm going to call them.

Yeah, nothing has changed on the status page. Maybe that's a bad sign. I just want to know now so I can move on.

Well, it's impossible for me to say whether or not any of you will be accepted, but I wouldn't lose hope altogether. From what I have heard from some reputable sources, next years class will probably consist of around 60 students or so that will have not yet been accepted.

Also, I'm sorry for those of you that have had negative experiences with the admissions office, but as someone who knows most of them personally, I can say that I haven't met anyone there that has been at all rude to me or any of the many applicants that I've seen interacting with them. As some folks here said already, they (and in particular Ms. Ilana Levine) go out of their way to help prospective students on a routine basis.

I just called and the woman said I should hear by tomorrow and if I don't then to please call them back.

It's a good thing I'm so patient. This excruciating wait really works for me.

I interviewed on Feb 28th and I'm going through the same thing. For some reason, it seems there aren't many people on here waiting for DS responses.

I got my acceptance packet today. It was postmarked 5/6, and I live in Brooklyn.

Thanks! So relieved...
I interviewed the week of 2/11

Awesome... Congratulations. Feel free to check out the facebook group for the DS class of 2012 at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16093687109. Also, if you're still undecided, please consider contacting the admissions office to shadow a student for a day (which should be easy considering you're already conveniently in Brooklyn).

It was a large yellow envelope, but I've heard someone got an acceptance in a small envelope too (how mean is that?!)

Also, my checklist changed to show the registration requirements the day I got my acceptance letter.

Good luck guys, I hope to see you all next year.

got my acceptance in a large manila envelope yesterday. i just withdrew so good luck to the rest of you still waiting.

Has anybody who interviewed in March heard anything yet?

I still haven't gotten anything. The admission's office told me that I would get something last week. I called them again and they just told me to wait for it... It can't seriously take the parcel service 12 days to get to me can it?

Did you give them your info when you called? Once when I called (a different school), they told me decision letters have been sent and I freaked out. But when two weeks came and went, I realized that they meant that the last out-right rejections or invitations to interview were being mailed.

I think nymc usually sends an email and you get that first.

They asked for my name and I even made sure that the mailing address was correct. I have to say that the person I spoke today was pretty vague about when I should be getting the decision. She said something along the lines of, "You'll be getting something this week, we send it to you in the beginning of May." I hope I hear before the 15th so I can either withdraw from my other schools if accepted and get my deposit back or try find housing for next year.

Sorry about that nymc comment, I've been reading nymc threads because I'm waiting for them too.

SUNY I know a lot less about. They're more mysterious with their process because no one seems to talk about downstate all that much. In general though, they seem to be a bit slower on things since they haven't made the transition from paper to electronic yet.

You're in a weird situation though because it sounds like they've definitely mailed you a decision letter. Maybe you're in the same boat I am? I got a "we'll re-review in the spring" letter, which I think is synonymous with a wait-list.

I know you're anxious to know before the May 15th deadline, but since they won't give out decisions over the phone, maybe you could convince them to notify you by email since that's more legitimate than giving out decisions over the phone to a stranger?

No problems 🙂

I think I'll call again later this week, wait and see if anything comes in the mail. I agree, this school is very mysterious. I thought more people be discussing this school.

I interviewed the week of 2/18 and got a "hold for spring consideration" letter, which was dated May 6.

Starry, did you specifically ask if you would hear by the May 15th deadline? Maybe try that approach.

it was dated the 6th??? It's practically summer! I wonder what they're waiting for..

I interviewed 2/28 and still haven't heard anything. Anybody in the same boat? Is this bad news?

I interviewed in November and I haven't heard anything since they sent me the "we will re-review your app in the spring" letter two months ago. I don't know what's going on. It looks like we're in the same boat, though.

got into wash u today, will be withdrawing from downstate when the paperwork comes through. hope one of u gets my spot

congratulations!! and thanks for letting us know

I finally got the response, it's a hold. I think I'm going to withdraw from any further consideration. GL to the rest of you!

does it make anyone else nervous that the Downstate WL doesn't seem to be moving?

a little, but not too much. I don't think they're a school that's really quick to get back to us. I remember my tour guide said he got accepted a week before classes started, so the WL moves...just slowly and surely.

Did anybody get an email after they interviewed that states that they were put on hold for the alternate list? Is this a waitlist for the waitlist?

If you check the "Downstate: Hold for Spring Consideration" thread, you'll see that we got an email today stating that we'll be re-reviewed at the end of June and then perhaps put on an alternate list in July. The wording is a bit ambiguous and it does sound like the hold list will be trimmed down to a waitlist.

Personally I find that very odd because classes start in August and I wouldn't expect much movement between July and August. Does anyone know how much movement there is on the SUNY waitlist? 5 people? 50 people?

Sorry didn't see that thread. I got the same email, which is why I asked the question. This sucks...

but I guess the conclusion is that we should have all expected this, right? This is normal, and there really wasn't much chance of getting accepted beforehand? Starting to feel a bit pushed around... I thought the may 15 deadline was supposed to mean something for the schools too. oh well, such is life. I am NOT going to withdraw my application, but I fully expect to never get off this list. Or even make a list to get off of.

I interviewed March 10 and have not heard anything. I emailed them and they said it can take 10-12 weeks.😕

I wouldn't lose hope, I bet the wait list gets a LOT of movement.

you're very right! they currently don't even HAVE a waitlist, they just put people on hold and then most of them onto the waitlist and then people get off of that just like any other and they'll have PLENTY of people not attending so worry not! they're just super slow! =/

Does anyone know if suny ranks their waitlist?

nygirl, I really appreciate your optimism. Thanks!

not really any news, but I got the snail mail version of their email today. It says I'm still on hold until they construct their WL in mid/late June. Whatever that means.
