congrats!!! I was pulling for you. I am in the middle of the middle, so I hope things keep moving. 👍Kazema said:I just checked my status page and I'm Accepted/Lettered now 🙂.
So it is moving!
Thanks guys 🙂
I'm sure the list will start moving faster again soon, I think it goes like this every year, fast for a bit, slow for a bit, then fast for a bit, etc. Overall, the list is faster this year than last so hopefully the good news will come for you guys soon!

got my acceptance letter today. they give you a week to decide from the day the sent it out, so i have until wednesday. struggling with a decision i have to make so i think i'm gonna have to overnight a deposit on tuesday if i decide on buffalo. but i'll let you guys know if i open up a seat by withdrawing

Yeah still gonna hold out for Pitt and Case. I'll probably withdraw from Case a couple weeks before orientation but I'll stay on Pitt's until the bitter end. If they call me up at 4:59 pm the day before the White Coat Ceremony I would pack up and leave town
. It's just that I really loved living in Pittsburgh and still consider it my home; I have quite a few friends and deep roots there. My hometown is pretty much right between Pittsburgh and Cleveland but around where I live, you're either a Steeler fan or a Browns fan, and whichever one you choose determines which city you identify yourself with more 😉.
But I feel that I was really lucky in that I only got interviews with schools I really like, so I'll be happy no matter which school I end up at. I see these posts with people agonizing whether to attend a school they've been accepted at or drop and reapply and I just can't empathize with them even a little bit - and I'm glad that I can't.

i know -- ive been reading these threads of people who would rather reapply than attend the school theyve been accepted too... oy! no way... though, kaz, like you said - maybe weve lucked out to have only interviewed at schools that were great.
good luck with your decision gusterfan -- i saw your other thread, and tufts is a great school too. im a new england girl, so boston does hold my heart, but buffalo is up there too! let us know what you decide!

Just as a general heads up, the housing day is scheduled for June 23 and 24 (Thurs/Fri). On the 23rd there's an open bar/snack thing at 5 pm and on Friday at 9 am they have the housing info thing. It all costs $10 to attend.
Might be a good idea to call Mr. Rosso and check if you could go if by the week before they're in your section of the waitlist but haven't gotten to you yet - it would be a slight damper to get in the week after and miss the housing day if you're set on attending.
Only a slight disappointment of course 😉.
Meanwhile I tried to pay the deposit online today and the site said that my SSN wasn't in the database. So i guess I'll have to call them on Monday again.

GATORade said:According to one of the secretaries, UB is steadily approaching the middle of the middle third. Good luck guys. 👍
thats what i need to hear 🙂 ive been getting uber stressed out and i called last week thursday and dont want to overdo it.... not that i gave my name last time... haha
Nothing new here, but I called yesterday and Mr. Rosso said that they're still in the upper middle and that movement had slowed down after a very quick trip through the entire first third...glad to hear we're steadily approaching the middle middle because that's where I am.
He didn't quote me any odds this time 😉 Maybe that's better, I don't want to get my hopes up but I do love UB.
Here's to consistent waitlist movement 👍

Actually who else is going to this thing? I'll be there definitely on the 23rd, not sure yet about the 24th.

samiam said:congrats ames, that is great news! but now that you're accepted, whose going to replace you as the obsessive post-er on this thread?! kidding.

lol - i know, right?? i fully admit it.... i turned totally ocd about this waitlist. ahhhh - youre going to have to pick up my slack!!
[ahem. you know its bad when the first thing i still do is still run a search for "buffalo" to see if there are any new postings... sad but true.]
I really want to apply to SUNY UB this summer but im out of state. Anyone here received an acceptance or received an interview that is from out of state?

My apologies, Splink! I certainly didn't mean to exclude anyone. Hopefully we'll all get some good news by the end of this week. Thanks for the update.
Iceage: I know people out of state have gotten interviewed and accepted. I don't know the specifics though. BUt it is a great school so go ahead and apply if you want to go there.

I'm living in Rochester but am a PA resident. I think I remember seeing in the MSAS that the SUNYs don't get too many out of state applicants. They don't interview a WHOLE bunch but relative to the amount that apply it's pretty reasonable. I suspect my Rochester address may have helped me, but I don't know.
Good luck to all you waitlisters! I think that historically the list does speed up again once June 21 comes. So just sit tight and we're all cheering for you! 👍

Any more news today?

Hey guys. I know it's been a while since I posted on my favorite thread. To be honest, I've almost given up on the UB waitlist. I've been fortunate enough to receive an acceptance from another school that I know I will be happy at. I guess a little more debt isn't going to kill me in the long run. I actually just got back from apartment searching and I really got a good feel about the place. I haven't yet signed a lease, but I'm planning on doing so by July 1st. Who knows, maybe the UB call will come before then (Highly doubt it though since I'm in the middle of the bottom 1/3rd). If not, I'll still be at a school that I'm really looking forward to attending. I wish you guys the best of Luck! 👍
I am at the bottom third (upper part)..so let's hope that the waitlist keeps on moving. 👍
I know that was mentioned during the interview. Apparently they have a big palm pilot program, I remember they showed us the devices where you can beam stuff onto your palm right outside the computer lab.Kazema said:Does anyone know anything about a "required Palm device"? I saw an e-mail on the mailing list about it but couldn't remember reading or hearing that we had to get one.
maybe they forgot to mention it, it was more of an aside than anything else. I just remember well because I was standing right by it when Mr. Rosso was leading us into the computer lab, and it looked pretty cool--I'd never seen a palm workstation before 🙂Kazema said:Wow, I can't believe that I don't remember that.

yeah i called about the PDA also...and mr. Blomenson (i believe that was his name) told me we will be getting a list in the mail...cheapest one is $230...but dont get it until u get the letter 🙂

No news from anyone in a couple of days? Has anyone else got pulled off the waitlist yet?
And Kaz, now that you mention it, I do vaguely remember the PDA requirement being brought up during our tour. If you go to the housing weekend, can you let me know what they say? I'm not in yet, but even if I do get pulled off the waitlist before then I won't be able to make it. Thanks! 🙂

seconding the
- with the 21st coming up, im sure itll be moving with lightening speed *crossing fingers*
a couple questions though -- i am an out of state student [for the person asking earlier - im oos, dont have crazy numbers, and got in - so apply!!] so kaz - im hoping you have some insight. regarding the palm - i also recall hearing about it on the tour, but dont remember it being a requierment for the first year. i havent seen anything in mail/on the web site yet, so we'll see.... does anyone remember anything about computers? any particulary reccomended?
but, more importantly, does anyone know how out of state loans work? i spoke with someone in the financial aid office the other day who didnt shed too much light. it seems as though they have their student budget, and you cant take out any more than they say you can -- i.e. for housing they budget $625 a month for 9.5 months -- im planning on living in a 1 br, and with all utilities/cable/etc. thats not much for an apartment. their budget also doesnt include health insurance, the $200+ for a palm, etc. so -- my real question is - can we take out more than they budget? im not talking about taking like an extra 10K so i can shop as much as my little heart desires, but what if i have car trouble? or a dental emergency [not covered under their health plan]? i rather take out extra now and pay it back at the end of the year than to scraping it together, ya know? ANYWAY. anyone know?

I THINK
that if you need more money you can go to a private lender and take out as much as you want (depending on your credit score). Of course the interest rate will be higher but I guess that's the price (literally) you pay. I got my award letter (all loans) on Friday and it's just enough to cover the tuition so I'll probably have to do that; I'm gonna call up the office and ask them on Monday.

Hey does anyone know what the exact procedures are for phone calls after June 21st? I can't seem to find my letter right now stating what would happen. What if I can't answer my phone right at that moment--will they leave a message and give me until the end of the day to accept, or do they move on to the next person right there?
I work as an EMT so if I'm out on a call, I don't think I'll be able to answer the phone. I'm not sure my patient would appreciate me taking personal calls while they're lying on the stretcher.

I believe that they will leave a message saying that you must respond by 5 pm that day or they will move on. Make sure you give them tons of phone numbers - they'll call all the ones you list. So if you are friends or really trust your boss or dispatcher or whoever, maybe you could have them receive the call and then they could radio you telling you to call the school back?
Where are you on the wait list by the way?

Oh good. Thanks a lot, Kaz. And looking back a few pages, I saw Splink had said the same thing too, oops, can't believe I forgot it. I'm a bit relieved now because I'm sure I will have some time in between jobs to call Mr. rosso back. Unfortunately I work for a 911-based service, so we are dispatched by the police department. I'm not quite sure what Mr. Rosso's reaction would be if he called someone on my list of contacts and got an answer of, "XYZ Police Department. Can I help you?"
I'm in the middle of the middle third, which is apparently where they are right now, judging by Ames's acceptance. I just hope that the waitlist keeps moving like it has been, but with my luck it will probably just stop at the person right in front of me. 😱

Hey I'm sure they'll get to you soon. I think they had movement all the way into August last year and dipped into the lower third.
Good luck this week 😀.
I found this page about the Palm device...maybe you guys have already seen it but for anyone curious about it:
http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/pda/device.shtml
It looks like these devices were for 2004 though. So don't go ordering them just yet 😉.
