If you already completed the Supervalu summer internship program, can you tell me your opinion about the program?

Anyone else planning to do the Supervalu summer internship program this summer?

The program sounds nice. I hope I get selected. I heard that it is very competitive to get in.

yeah it sounds nice. I did hear it was very competitive to get in. I applied last year and didn't get in. They chose one person from my school and he had worked for acme for 7 years as a tech.

Yeah, I did one two summers ago. Its not bad, better than working for CVS or walgreens for the summer. They give you a binder with different therapeutic topics and you go over one each week. The stores are slow enough where you can read while at work. On Fridays, you would go to the local headquarters to meet with the other interns to do presentations etc. There is a final project that you have to complete and present at your store. Pretty decent, plus they start you with 4 weeks vacation once you graduate. Too bad they're not hiring right now.

wow 4 weeks of vacation! holy cow. SUPERVALU would definately be one of my top choices for retail...I love how they offer clinical aspects. But I have heard that they aren't hiring...or are hiring far away.

Two Questions:

Did you learn a lot?

How much do they pay you per hour?

I did this in 2001. So it probably has changed since then. I did it after my P2 year. They paid us I think 10 or 12 bucks an hour full time for 10 to 12 weeks. 4 days a week working at a pharmacy, one day a week going to intern activities usually for a half or full day. While you were at your store they would give you a few hours a week to work on the activities in your binder. Had to give one or two presentations to fellow interns and 3 of us gave a presentation to a senior retirement home about a drug therapy topic. I did mine in suburban Chicago with Osco. It was extremely well organized and well run. I would definitely encourage it. Also, if you wanted to schedule a couple of days working and shadowing their diabetes clinical pharmacists who saw patients you could do that as well. I know the job market has changed a lot since then but if you wanted to continue working for them when you went back to school in the fall, they would try to find a good store for you.

I was wondering if anyone on SDN applied for summer 2012 and if they had heard back after interviews yet? Thanks!

I got an email that I didn't get in. I had high hopes for this. Oh well.
