Now that the interview year is winding down, most people should be able to help contribute to this list. I'm trying to compile a list to see what schools provide in terms of support towards the cost of interviews.

Where did you go to interview, and did they provide you housing/hosting? Did they reimburse you for travel? If so, how much?

If you're posting old information from previous interview years, please post the year in case things have changed.

Thanks in advance for your input! here... I'll start the list:

U Michigan -Ann Arbor: housing + travel reimbursement upto $400
U Rochester: hosting

I made a similar thread I think about a year ago, and this is the document that I produced from all of the replies:

WashU - pays for everything
Hopkins - Doesn't pay for airfare, but housing and meals are taken care of
UPenn - Doesn't pay for airfare, but housing and meals are taken care of
Cornell - Doesn't pay for airfare, but housing and meals are taken care of
NYU - Doesn't pay for airfare, but housing and meals are taken care of
Harvard - Doesn't pay for anything (no housing or meals are included)
UCSF - sets you up for housing with a current student if available, otherwise nothing.
Vanderbilt - covers travel up to $400 and provides a hotel
Duke – covers travel up to maybe $300 and provides a hotel
UCSD-covers no travel but sets you up with a student
Northwestern pays for on-site expenses (hotel & meals)
Stanford does not provide travel funds for interviews
Univ of Alabama Birmingham pays for all expenses (not sure on the fine details)
Univ of Colorado will cover up to three nights hotel accommodations (room charges only) and miscellaneous travel expenses such as airport parking, shuttle service to and from Denver International Airport, etc.
Univ of North Carolina pays for transportation, lodging and food
University of Washington (not to be confused with WashU St. Louis) says: "Travel costs will be reimbursed at the level indicated in your application"
UMd - reimbursed for travel up to $300
UVa – ditto
UMich reimburses up to $400 for travel, and they pay for all accomodation when you get there

So far as I know from personal and second-hand experience, the list is still accurate. (But do correct it if it's wrong, obviously.)

I'm heading out to the newer UT Austin /UTMB program. They dover plane flight ("no first class" she reminded me); more could be negoatinated, however, i wanted to stay with my old PI who had just relocated to the area.

Also - if you aren't part of a frequent flier program (AA, UA, CO, etc.) join now! The amount of flying you do can earn you a free ticket (or more) to places. Because I live in TX, AA and CO have the majority of the flights (ignoring southwest) so flying AA all the time has made a difference. Also, for places that reimburse - you can visit two schools for the price of 1! I like to think that Michigan and Vanderbilt "helped" pay for my flights to Penn and Harvard. I also used miles to travel to NYC and vouchers to travel to a few other places....

Pittsburgh doesn't pay for anything >.<

Sorry I didn't read through the list carefully--I did get one free dinner, two lunches and a continental breakfast at UCSF.

I've also added a new feature, PERKS, for the interviewee who is only interested in free stuff. Did anyone get anything really good? I really wanted a mug but have failed to get one!

I got the world's best water bottle** from Vanderbilt. It's like a nalgene but it's shaped such that it can fit in a cup holder AND you can choose two different sized openings: one for adding water from a faucet and a smaller one from drinking out of. No matter where I end up I will keep on using that water bottle!

**I helped my team win the Vandy trivia game (Colloseum!!!) and thus had first dibs on the loot - i feel i made a good choice

p.s. I'm impressed SDN offers "sea green" as a font color

UAB gave us a nice bag of things. My favorite was the box of mints with "UAB MSTP" logo 😀. We also got a t-shirt, mug, UAB hand sanitizer, and probably some other things I am forgetting.

Felt I should add to the loot list because we all know what these interviews are really about. 😉

I wanted that water bottle. 😡
